  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Ten years ago, the results of the elections were simply accepted. The outgoing president courteously conceded.
I mean, technically it was 12 years ago in an election I should've voted in, but I didn't (busy with college, slipped my mind), if you're referring to Bush graciously accepting his transition and being very courteous to Obama, I imagine.

And he was the subject of many a joke, yet honestly he or even his younger brother would be preferable in an alternate universe where our choices were between him and Hilary back in 2016

I was not referring to Bush or anyone else really---I was actually meaning more of the state of mind of the American people back then. They simply accepted the outcome of the votes---no rioting not refusing to admit defeat, none of the garbage going on now.

It was John McCain who lost to Barack Obama in 2008. You are absolutely correct that McCain was gracious in defeat. Obama definitely had the charisma factor. Unfortunately for him, McCain was saddled with Bush's misguided Iraq war, which was going nowhere. And he was also hurt by the not-ready-for-prime-time Sarah Palin.

I guess the way I was thinking was the previous president, not Obama's opponent, but both are still accurate in each context

The more misinformation spreads through the internet, which arguably was still a bit in its infancy back then, the more emboldened people become in thinking they know more than they do.
