  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, hell is as real as you can get. It's a Bible FACT, and God's Word is the sole authority on this subject. What unbelievers make fun of and laugh off now has no effect on what reality will be for eternity. There won't be anything funny about it.

Yes, hell is a real place. I also agree with 357magnum's post.

Actually, the Magisterium of the Catholic Church is the sole authority on this subject. Nobody has the authority to authoritatively interpret the Bible but the Magisterium as a whole.

That is a lie. The bible is God's word and the only authority is God. You read the bible and the Holy Spirit will teach you the meaning of what it means.

Roman Catholic doctrine is a false and heretic doctrine and will only has authority over those that is following this false doctrine.

You would have to define "Hell". Fire and Brimstone, consciously tortured for all eternity, Dante invention of Hell? No, it doesn't exist. Destroyed, cease to exist, separated from God Hell, maybe.

There would be no weeping and gnashing of teeth if ceasing to exist was the end of the road. So destroyed and cease to exist are off the table as outcomes according to Jesus.

I realize this is a conservative Christian site but I would like to take a quick survery with just ONE QUESTION. (I also know there are unbelievers who come to this site and I would like for them to vote also). NO NEED TO COMMENT. JUST YES OR NO. I will start a new thread on the subject when people have had time to answer.

Question: Do you believe that we are all sinners, doomed to hell unless we repent of our sins and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?

I will leave this up for one week and take a count at the end. One week will be May 6th.

This is not a conservative Christian site. (You seriously thought it was?)

I voted that yes, all who do not repent, and are not covered in the righteousness of Jesus the Christ, the only begottren Son of the living God, the God of the living, go to everlasting torment, into hell, created for satan and his minions, for those who are not covered in the righteousness of Christ are prisoners. THey are chained to satan himself and will be dragged into hell with satan.

Is that a joke?

The Bible is not God's Word, Jesus is. To claim otherwise is to commit the sin of bibliolatry (worshipping the Bible).

Jesus is God's word? No wonder you are so confused about hell. If you do not believe the bible is God's word, then why believe any of it? .

My first purpose for doing the poll was to create discussion on the subject (I had thought post-poll discussion but as it turned out has already taken place).

My other purpose was to see how many, though they call themselves a Christian, might answer no. I think on this site we generally find either Bible believing Christians or non-believers.

The group I was really trying to reach are those who call themselves Christians but reject the idea of hell. They create a personal god who could not be "cruel" enought to send people to hell. They have this idea that there are other ways to reach heaven other than threw Jesus. They may even think that everyone who lives a moral life will reach heaven. Unfortuantely, I believe there are many of these people who religously attend church.

Sadly we have too many "Christians" that rejects the truth of hell since they don't want to follow Christ. They say they are Christians, but with their lips and actions they are spiritually dead like the rest of the world.

This site has sections for Mormons, Unitarians and even clubs for people who think they are possessed. This definitely is not a conservative site.

I voted Yes. All have fallen, all are destined to death unless they repent and accept the atoning sacrifice of the Messiah.

Yes, I believe Hell does exist. However, I would have to agree with Jase about what Hell actually is.

The latter is what I was taught. Makes sense. ;)

He was speaking metaphorically. The common understanding of Hell is based on Dante's Inferno and Milton's Paradise Lost.

Not Biblical, in other words. Uh-oh.

Jase said:
Nothing promotes conversion like the threat of eternal torture. The Catholic Church adopted this view, because fear brought more people into the pews.

Yup, and you wonder why so many people view Christianity as a fear-based religion? Wasn't Jesus about love, compassion and mercy, not fear?

Jesus never taught that hell was an eternal torture chamber controlled by fallen angels.

QFT.

And, oh how often we see this sin committed. ;)

DRD4Him,

re: "There would be no weeping and gnashing of teeth if ceasing to exist was the end of the road."

What scripture do you have that says how long the "weeping and gnashing of teeth" is going to last?

Jesus was referring to everlasting torment, hence weeping and gnashing.

Rev. 14:11: "And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; and they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name."

Rev. 20:10-15

10-And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

11And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

You can't cherry pick the verses that tickle your ear. Read your bible and you will see for yourself. Oh wait, you probably don't believe in the bible either.

What various people think about this subject means absolutely nothing. The only thing that matters is what the Bible bluntly and clearly teaches. Look for yourself in your Bible and don't ask someone to spoon-feed you. You should have a topical index in your Bible. Look under "Hell" and read it for yourself. Don't rely on what you think - find out what the Bible clearly teaches.

*PGP wonders how many babies will be in Hell according to the OP, after all they can't repent of their sins and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

None. No babies in hell. Read what king David said about his baby that dies as an infant. What about you?
