You are correct.

As Pogo said, we have met the enemy, and he is us. Our human nature, with our myridad desires, prejudices, and expectations is the ultimate source of our problems. But it's much easier to change the government, than to change ourselves.

This is especially apparent when you see so many individuals conforming their views with the political party they support instead of the religion they supposedly subscribe to. An atheist liberal and Christian liberal generally have much more in common than a Christian liberal and Christian conservative.
