Yes, workers'pay should stay flat while their productivity rises. MAGA!
I am longing for our new gilded age where we get our first trillionaire and a return of bread lines.

It's pretty silly to think that an extra day off of work equates to idleness.

I agree, as far as one day goes. Idleness, resulting from a futuristic society, where hardly anyone works due to technological advancement, is kind of a "fantasy" at this point.

Difficult to say, whether it will work in Poland. They will test it and then they will evaluate the results.

But with the AI and automation in basically all working positions, it is logical the way we work should change and grant us more free time.
Or throw the superflous people onto the street as dead weight.

The good news is that those pesky illegal Mexicans won't have jobs here either. At least, that's the deal we're being offered.

You might want to read 'Beyond This Horizon' by Robert Heinlein. It is easy to skim over the part that makes it clear one can exist quite nicely on just the Government dividend. (It seems that perhaps a major consideration is keeping it low enough that there is some incentive to work).

It also brings into focus one little problem. Solving the issues of economic shortages does very little to satisfy those who want power for power's sake.

In all reality, those who love power exist within every class. From scammers to cults. From perverts to theives.. From rich to poor...

If we're talking about down the road stuff, the possibilities are endless for power craving people, when there's nothing but time on their hands. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

That kind of thing really only works for management personnel, limiting the number of days worked does make a difference for them. However, for regular workers, the extra day off wouldn't be the same day every week.

In North America, the employers would look at the data as a means to reduce hours, but not pay the same amount.
They already get payed more than we do, have more time off and better benefits. Now they are only have to work 6 hours??? That's bad, but it could get worse. I don't know how it will go in Poland, but there are some jobs that take more than 6 hours to get anything done and so the workers stay on for the original 8 hours and get two hours of overtime every day. Sounds like Poland may be in line for some good old American regime change.

Why would I do that? From my perspective it’s foolish and the best response is proactive. Create additional income streams before you lose your job or things worsen and expand them. Why would you wait on the government to solve a problem you have the ability to offset earlier? You should be planning now not later. This is the lesson of fairytales, nursery rhymes and proverbs too. Planning and industry yields the best results.

That's acceptable advice provided one has the resources. But some of that attitude is also partly responsible for what is being called the "metacrisis" in the first place. In truth, the old Protestant system of finding meaning in structured employment has been broken for a long time, as the sacramental system that made that worldview tenable was corrupted by greed, psychological manipulation, mindless consumerism, and environmental degredation. It's just most people in the US haven't woken up to it. Europeans are further along in that process, perhaps.

I was in Germany last year. A huge percentage of those working in service industries are Poles. (Thinking back it seems that perhaps those under 50 years old who did not speak at least passable English might well have been Poles or other non-Germans).

I have to wonder if perhaps the proposals in question are an attempt to retain workers in Poland.

You were afraid of systemic problems. And systemic problems need to be solved systematically. In democratic countries (like the USA), you need to hope that the democratic processes (like elections) will find a good solution.

You can individually prepare as much as you want, of course. I do not say you cannot.

I don’t expect you to predict that and I’ve been following it for sometime and making adjustments. Nothing I’ve heard thus far is benevolent. Which isn’t a reason for panic but a motivation to double your efforts and put safeguards in place to cover you. But that‘s my bend and I’m not a fan of dependency. I’d rather have a surplus and financial freedom than live with constraints.

Not working in a specific paid job does not equal idleness, though. Americans are used to work and commute to work and back so much that they sometimes do not know what free time even means or what to do with it.
