I still don't see how that gets me out of bed in the morning?

Perhaps what he is trying to say is that your focus should be outward not inward. Get out of bed in the morning to help others and praise God. Often this can bring meaning and joy to life; where just trying to make yourself (I don't mean you personally, all of us.) happy leads no where.

Indeed.

Navel gazing is a concept, but not a worthwhile practice (even though many women do pierce theirs and examine their jewelry there).

We need to focus on God and others. John's Gospel is a good start.

Except I tried that. Most of the time it just stressed me out.

That's also what I meant by 'coping mechanisms' - that stuff just puts off the inevitable.

And if I'm helping others to bring meaning and joy to my life isn't that just as selfish?

God is the meaning, doing what He has planed for us to do, that is it. You need to focus on the inside, you will find heaven inside of you if you have Jesus. Being alone is not good, find someone, but if you can not know God is always there.

Things which can help, learn to find joy in the small and simple things. find joy in each moment, enjoy the journey. Think of it like this, as Humans we go away from home for many reasons, at first it is fun and interesting, but the longer we are gone from home the hard it gets, in fact we have already started the journey back home. The focus is on home, but if you have ever been on a long car ride home you know counting the clock makes the trip longer, while Home remains the focus, you have to look around at where you are at on the trip see the sights. Learn to enjoy the ride, this ride is one time only. It can beat the hell out of you, or it can be great, but if you have God going through it with you and you learn what is important,People, it can help make things easier. Just breath.

Peace and love

I have found that not finding purpose in life is often times a spiritual problem. Even as a Christian, if I am not as close to God in my life as I should be, I find that life starts seeming pointless and stupid. When I am careful to confess my sins and forsake them and follow close to Jesus I am aware of the presence of His Spirit and there is an inner joy that makes life's journey seem good. I am not saying that things are perfect... but they are much better. Of course, if you are not a Christian yet then the first thing is to become a Christian.

How do you do that? By understanding you are a sinner who deserves to be punished by God and that you can do nothing good to save yourself or make yourself right with God. Then by understanding that Jesus Christ the Lord, who is God's Son, died on the cross to pay for our sins so that whoever believes on Him for salvation will be saved.

Then by believing on Him. That is done by trusting and believing that even though you are a sinner, nevertheless, you are now right with God because the death of Jesus pays for your sins. We have the right to believe this because the Bible says that whosoever desires His salvation may come and take it freely by faith.

Because in the end does it really matter? When you get no pleasure from life (or at the most it's distractions from continual depression) focusing on God only helps in the short run.

How many people can say they only get out of bed because of God? That He is there sole reason for living - because if you claim that then you better have no desire for anything else - not for your husband or wife, not for your kids, not even for your favourite (insert sport here) team.

I just think that people who claim that Jesus is their bread and water are fooling themselves. And damaging those of us who really do have nothing. Because of this idea that 'all you need is God' promoted by people who have everything else it gives you false hope that when you hit bottom there'll be something there...and it turns out there isn't.

Have you gone to your pastor? I'm sorry to hear so much has been taken away. There is no question I might feel the same way if I lost my family. Hearing of Job would not be comfort, for I know I'm nowhere near Job's maturity level in God. What you can take away from job is there is no shame in pain. I feel your pain. I'm saddened because your hurting. May God give you strength. May God have mercy on you.
