Poem 19
9-13-18
Mood: happy, starting to feel free, somewhat stressed about my life
Location: in my hotel room on my bed

My soul is being lifted up from the pit,
I am being delivered from corruption.
God has heard my cry and granted me forgiveness and compassion.
Why did it have to take so long?
I have been given gifts from God and am blessed.

My sins have been so great that I couldn't see...
Terror has been on every side, I almost thought I was doomed... my eyes were darkened, and I was despised by people, but rightly so.
but God had a plan and had His hand heavy upon me.
My heart hated my sin so God pulled me out.

How wicked the human heart can be!
I have proven to myself that I cannot trust myself, that I can only trust God.

My soul is being lifted up from the pit,

Your first line reminded me of:

Invictus
BY WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Reminiscent of Psalms 40 "I Waited Patiently for the LORD"
