  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi there...

Just wondering who has Pocket PC devices? What are your thoughts? What do you like? What don't you like? WHat do you use yours for? Does anyone have any experience with the Dell Axim?

Really, I'm just researching. I'd like to consider getting one by the end of the year, if I can afford it...just looking for experience.

Peace,

WJ

I have a Cassiopeia E-125.

It works quite well, with a variety of software available for pretty much any task, although I primarily used it as an MP3 player. I'd also download offline versions of web sites using Teleport, so I could upload them to the Pocket PC for reading on the road (the web browsing capabilities on it are far better than I thought they would be). And from time to time, it came in handy for doing web coding and the occational bit of writing. Oh, and of course, playing games (it even ran Quake, albeit kinda slow).

Oddly, I never used it for the day-to-day things most people buy these for (i.e. note taking, keeping track of appointments, people's phone numbers, etc).

I have Compaq iPaq (job gave it) model 39xx don't remember now, it's at work. They are actually pretty nice.

Dell Axims are even better though. Not much experience to them really. But they are cool to play with. You can use them to record your voice and act as a remote for your tv.

Shadow. Cats can't type.
I have a Dell Axim from work. It's nice, overall. I was a Palm user for years (since the original PalmPilot Personal model came out) and there are still instances where I miss a few of my old familiar Palm apps, but overall I'm pleased with it. I think I'll like it even better when I get full wireless coverage at work and home.

I have a Compaq ipaq with the strong arm processor. I’ve had it for 18 months and nearly take it with me every place. I do every thing from playing Age of Empires on it to downloading current weather satellite images or road map and directions from the Internet. Oh I use it for work sometimes too hehe. Expensive toy… tool… thing. I picked up a flash card to store Ebooks, Docs and MP3’s. It has an external speaker but if I plug it into my home/car stereo system I have a huge selection of songs to listen to in full digital surround sound quality. Well, obviously I’m sold on them it seems.

Cons: Taking notes with it is not as efficient as using my laptop. You can get a fold out keyboard for it but it will run you an extra $100. It’s good for taking quick notes but I always wind up uploading it to a computer to edit since I don’t have the keyboard for it. If you get a real nice PPC with all the extras, the cost is comparable to an entry level laptop which you can do much more with.

If I broke the PPC I have now I’d run out and buy another, but maybe a less expensive model. But then again there should be some well priced PPC/PDA units out there comparably to mine since it’s 18 months old.
