  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As many of you know the Christian Psychedelic band, Pluto Thalidomide Space Shuttle lost their lead singer Grace Clipboard in a dreadful scientific accident.

S/he will be sorely missed but like a phoenix rising from the flames the band has been able to expand out from the more traditional psychedelic christian music and explore other influences such as trance and electronica.

They have just released the first single from their new album "Hike!". It is called "Nuclear Friendship"

I kept waiting for the bridge.....

Remember this is explorational dance/electronica. Not your usual rock structure as you may have loved from their earlier work.

Remember they started off as a blues/jug band in the Haight so you are probably looking for a 12-bar blues kind of structure.

They've evolved.

would you go so far as to call them experimental? If so, who is the control group?

It doesn't really grow on me, to be honest. I like their old classics, like "Take a hike Science", "I quite like science, except when I don't" and the blue grass hit they derived their name from: "I plutoed the Thalidomide challengers".

Their gospel album "English was good enough for Adam" is golden too, as are their apple sessions (although the latter is hard to find nowadays).

This is a full factorial experiment. The goal is to find every possible interaction term and all main effects up to 3rd order.

As such each song feels much, much longer than it should be.

It doesn't really grow on me, to be honest. I like their old classics, like "Take a hike Science",

They felt bogged down by their older catalogue and now, in their appearances, they don't even play the old standards like "Take a hike Science" and their cover of "Jesus is Just Alright".

and the blue grass hit they derived their name from: "I plutoed the Thalidomide challengers".

That was good but the critics at the time panned it. Apparently the electric banjo wouldn't catch on until much later. So now everyone's all "Ohhh that Bela Fleck guy!" As if no one ever played banjo before.

Their gospel album "English was good enough for Adam" is golden too, as are their apple sessions (although the latter is hard to find nowadays).

I have a bootleg of their "English was Good Enough for Adam" recorded in Finnish!

I've never gotten a copy of any of the Apple sessions. Apparently when the Beatles decided to back them through Apple Corps it cost them some listernship in the evangelical community (what with John "Bigger than Jesus" Lennon) and then the management debacles that lead to the suicide of their first lead sitar player, Dr. Throbert. It was a messy time for them.

Don't put all your faith in Google.

Wait, no, no, I didn't say that! I meant Praise Google from whom all information flows....

Amen.
Meta-information is important. I'm not going to praise Google for not doing its job....:argh:

Its cool when these bands youve barely heard of have such a deep history. Perhaps their time has come.

I've heard there's a "Behind The Music" special in the works as well as a "Classic Albums" documentary for their seminal album "E=KJV[sup]o[/sup]"

Although making fun of AV is something I can usually get behind, making an entire thread just to mock him is kind of mean... and I think it breaks the forum rules too.

It is a joke. No harm intended. And really, if you read the thread there is just about nothing that really makes fun of AV here.

If you can find an actual insult in this thread that is aimed at AV then please point it out.

If, however, you think the name of the band is an insult to AV then I would ask if I can use any of those words ever again?

One or two other things:

I actually rather like this band name. It is more the humor of the name and fun with a band idea rather than some perceived attck on AV.

But do not forget that AV attacks nearly non stop something that many of us hold dear. And he does it loudly and proudly.

This thread is a bit of levity that leverages three words. In reality this thread ws more a chance to play with the idea of the band developed in another thread.

Walking on sacred ground, am I?

It's not like what I hold dear gets attacked as well, is it?

You know ... like the KJB?

Who has attacked the kJV?

On this thread I made one pun on KJVO. Is that an attack? Hardly! It is a pun.

What, on thus thread, is an "attack" on you?

Well, its definitely making fun of him: the new album called "Hike". I'm still a fan of the band though.

I do not so much intend this to be a bash fest of AV, but I understand that I am using an AV related joke. But honestly there is nothing more to this thread than goofiness.

I will point out one subtle shout out to AV that I bet he never even got: KJV[sup]o[/sup].... I assume AV knows what any number raised to 0? It is 1.

And the album was E=... How many of our local christians equate energy with God in the universe?

The fact people can find insults in just anything is fascinating to see.

And the actual recorded songs had nothing to do with anything discussed here.

Lol.
