I understand that some elderly and handicapped must do this. Some work, etc. I try not to make too much out of it. Those that leave early because they want to are cheating themselves out of the blessing before the concluding hymn.
Yeah, I always get annoyed when I see this happen. It just seems really rude to me, you know?

Catholic speaker Tim Gray said the final blessing we receive from the priest at the end of each Mass is basically the one that the Jews in the Old Testament had to wait a whole year to receive.

Really! I knew the final blessing was very important but I did not know that bit of info. Thanks LWU!

I think about 1/3 of the people at Mass do this and it makes me cringe. Especially this old lady who generally doesn't seem to respect the Mass. Before Mass she goes up to people and talks their ear off and even pokes people and says hi while she's in line for the Eucharist...one time she told me I was too quiet. But I digress.

The priest is the last to arrive and the first to leave - that's my rule of thumb.
Especially this old lady who generally doesn't seem to respect the Mass.
I've jokingly said that the Church is carried by the prayers of old church ladies, and I do think there is truth to that. However, old ladies are also some of the worst offenders: chatting in Communion line, not having their phones on silent mode (who needs to talk to you at 11:20 on a Sunday morning, Barbara!? They know you're at Mass!) ...

Only one apostle left the last supper early.

I think it was @Rhamiel who told me a story of his priest who would remind parishioners of that. Verbally calling them out from the front of the communion line if he saw them heading for the door. Saying something to the effect of, "Only Judas dined and dashed!"

Way to go, father!
