hey guys! i finally get home on 2/14 after 15 months in afghanistan. can't wait to see my daughter (who is almost a year old now) for the first time. just hope she doesn't reject me ha. i have gotten to "talk" to her on the phone a couple times and have sent her lots of letters and pictures. it's crazy how much you can love someone you've never even met. can't wait to start being a dad really soon. thanks to everyone who has prayed for me and for all the ideas. take care!

Best advice I can give any parent on how to be the best parent...be the best husband/wife you can be. A child who knows his parents love and respect one another is the most secure child. A child who sees love and grace extended by their parents to one another and in extension to themselves is the happiest child. Doing all the practical stuff is terrific and a huge help but "being there" emotionally is even more important than physically. IMO that is how you excell in parenting.

so what's the best advice you all can give me on becoming a parent? my wife is due with our first child in march. i won't be around for the birth because i'm leaving for afghanistan in december, but i want to be ready when i get home!

Good luck over there buddy. I have a couple of friends still in Afghanistan.

Anyway: congratulations. I would say this: be a support to your wife when you are there. Be strong and patient, encouraging, and help out where you can. I think one of the most important things I do for my family is lead them well and to make a strong relationship with God the means by which I do that.
