  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Please reply i'm so confused.

 I don't know if this the right place for such a thread but sorry if i did it wrong!!
Please people i need help , i'm having a big problem ...
I was reading some threads on here and that's what i found..someone asking about women in prayer and that's what he said..
" I recently went to an inter-denominational event with my very southern baptist pastor. Everything went good till the end when they asked a woman to close in prayer. He said this was not biblical because by allowing a woman to pray over men was to submit to her authority. He kept quoting 1 Cor 14 where it talks about a woman being silent in church. I grew up in a southern baptist background and I had never heard this before. I went home and pulled out the Liberty Commentary (the most baptist commentary I know of) and I could not find any mention of this. I am aware of God's ordained order for men and women but I had never heard or thought of this applying to prayer. So my question is: Where do you other Southern Baptist stand on this issue? "

everything was fine till someone replied..here what he said..

" 1Timothy 2:12 - "I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet"

1 Corinthians 14:34-35 - "the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church."

As long as she wasn't teaching or exercising authority and this wasn't a church service, there's no real conflict with scripture in my mind. Like I said in another thread though, I think that in the context of both scriptures I wouldn't object to a woman doing the scripture reading. I would however probably not want a woman leading the prayer in a church service just to be on the safe side.
"

Is that really it ?!! Seriously ?!!
Right now i feel so humiliated , insulted and like if i was an inferior..
What's so wrong with women?!! why can't we speak and pray just like the men.
I'm Terribly SAD!! :(

Some folks really take that whole thing to extremes. Leading in prayer does not carry the connotation of leadership that preaching or teaching do, hence there is no authority expressed.
Not allowing a woman to vocalize prayer just to "be on the safe side" is legalism, IMO.
BTW, I'm also very Southern Baptist.

This was from the baptist forum and I thought there were some pretty good replies there. It's taking it to the extreme IMO and as the above poster said, legalistic. God loves us all equally and I believe he intended us to be in different roles for ministry and serving but we are not inferior due to our sex.

Much of the doctrine on women being "silent in the churches" has been misinterpreted..and as far as I can see taken out of context. Paul was speaking to women of that time. Women sat in a separate section and were not allowed to speak out or gab in church nor usurp authority over men especially in that manner. He was simply telling them to be quiet and save the questions for when they got home.

Jesus allowed women to minister to Him. And I think He still does. I just have no problem with women being in leadership in churches (not as tokens) but with responsibilities equal to men. When women become dominant and men are not given their status then we have the same problem in reverse and that can happen. In that case women would be usurping authority. The two working together make for good balance in ministry.

peace and prayers..

It's easy, they've misinterpreted all of those verses. There was a woman deacon and an apostle in the New testament amounst other things.

Praying for you...

I didn't get it at the time, but now i got it :)
Keep me in your prayers ..

I am offended that a woman would speak in a church; the Bible clearly says what it says on the issue of women, that's just the way God wants it. It may be politically incorrect, but God's will is what counts. A woman does not have testicles, and any man who is damaged in the stones shall not be a part of God's fellowship to MEN. A woman does not even HAVE testicles. Woman sinned first, and thus she is already blemished by this lacking. To quote scripture:

Timothy 2:12
And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron that in all future generations, his descendants who have physical defects will not qualify to offer food to their God. No one who has a defect may come near to me, whether he is blind or lame, stunted or deformed, or has a broken foot or hand, or has a humped back or is a dwarf, or has a defective eye, or has oozing sores or scabs on his skin, or has damaged testicles. Even though he is a descendant of Aaron, his physical defects disqualify him from presenting offerings to the LORD by fire. Since he has a blemish, he may not offer food to his God. However, he may eat from the food offered to God, including the holy offerings and the most holy offerings. Yet because of his physical defect, he must never go behind the inner curtain or come near the altar, for this would desecrate my holy places. I am the LORD who makes them holy." (Leviticus 21:16-23 NLT)

Isaiah 19:16
In that day the Egyptians will be like women. They will shudder with fear at the uplifted hand that
the LORD Almighty raises against them.

This verse points out that the Egyptians, instead of like strong, virtuous men, would be like weak, frail women who should have a hand raised to them when in disobedience. This is why I left my wife Janet. She would not submit to the will of the more spiritual sex.

Genesis 3:16:
To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give
birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."

Another verse for whoever doubts that women should not speak in church comes straight from Genesis.

:amen: It's perfectly okay if you are confused about this, but God will provide a way for you not to think of this as some kind of unfair treatment. It's precisely what God wants, and that's good enough for me, sister.

Love in the Name of the most Holy,
Byron

You could get a sex change, and then god would let you teach without calling it a sin... But it is pretty expensive. I may know a guy that can hook you up, though.

How could you know it wouldn't be a sin ?!!
God wanted me as a girl and if he wanted me as a boy he could have made me a boy!!!

But seriously who explained to you all those verses ? or you just did it all by yourself ?

I do a great deal of Biblical study when I am not reading Terminator Fanfiction. The Bible is a meticulously perfect piece of art and history that defies the world's logic. Also, God never said you had to be a preacher as a woman, but who knows?

But assuredly, if you want to praise the Lord and preach as a woman, you should do it. Ask Him with your whole heart, and perhaps I will be shown to be mistaken. Ask your religious mentor, priest, or pastor. I am not the only person who could interpret the Bible for you.

Do not be discouraged, for women have played vital roles in the early history of Israel. In Judges 4 and 5 we see that Deborah served as a Judge over the nation of Israel not only serving as a prophetess but also leading Israel to victory over the armies of Sisera. Additionally it was also a woman Jael how is responsible for killing Sisera with a tent peg through the temple thus eliminating a vital military threat against the people of Israel.
