All I remember doing most is just hurting. So I can't say as I resolved anything in the moment. Once she closed off that was pretty much the end of the story for a while. But honestly, I don't think I loved her as much as I should have. In a way it's really a cry for help, though hard to read that way. If I had been a stronger man for her at the time I would have went to her and hugged her, and when she tried to resist refused to let her go.
Since you're a woman, the answer might be different. But the idea is to love him and refuse to stop. Refuse to let him close off. Only you can't allow yourself to get angry or resentful, or your presence around him only makes things worse, and will lead to more conflict.
