I believe I have been a victim of extreme online libel and harassment. Can someone give me information so I know what kind of action I am able to take? This is EXTREMELY important!

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It really depends. In most cases, unless actual damage results, no one cares; it's very hard to make a libel case based on online stuff, because most people don't take it seriously.

I can't go into complete details 'cause we contacted an attorney, but this girl threatened my sister's life. She put on a PUBLIC FORUM that my husband and I can't pay our bills, I'm a bum without a job and have no business taking cruises. And then she sent me an email DARING to take action against her. She said if I did, she would spread personal "****" in the local newspapers.

how horrible. the life threating part is considered serious by most cops I know. I hope you can get an order of protection against her.

Take her too court.
And yeah, Like the papers want to hear about people without Jobs?
What business is it of her's to pry into your business?
Get the law in there - they have to help, harrasment is considered quite dangerous in America isn't it??

For the record, neither my sister nor I provoked this in ANY way. It totally came out of the blue. And my hubby and I are NOT having financial problems, and I'ma ctually working 3 jobs...
