My church sits next to the campus of a UMC related college. I find that schools that are close to college campuses often are more formal or high church. I've had some persons doing pulpit supply that don't vest. But that is the exception here rather than the rule.

Your Alb looks a somewhat like a kittel, worn on the High Holy Days of Judaism, both traditional and Messianic.
