  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Not only that. Supporting standards is another biggie.
For you and me yes, but W3C QA estimates that 0.007% of Web pages are authored in valid code. Unfortunately since MSIE is so popular, there is virtually no pressure on designers to clean up there sites. Just look at the crud that FrontPage, Dreamweaver and the like spit out!

While IE read these pages relatively well, standards browsers do not display the bad code, or the pages look funky. This is how it should be, bad code looks bad, but the average user sees how well the same page displays in IE, and thinks the problem is with the standards browser.

Still, I highly suggest Mozilla as a primary browser, it is vastly superior to IE.
IE is part of all the newer Win OS', so it can always be used as a backup on websites you need to see the bad code on.

have tried various web browsers really and i ended up going back to the basic IE .. if you're running microsoft OS' it's just a matter of understanding very well the variuos configurations in your internet options... i believe microsoft have provided the right internet browser to its client and it's up to the client to perform some tweaking really...
Unfortunately, you can't tweak the rendering engine, which is the core problem with IE, besides security.

Yes, that's why we developers need to rise up and validate our code!

I just ran Spybot S&D and then Ran Ad-aware and I picked up some addtitional spyware with Ad-aware. Just yesterday I did two of my dorm-neighbors computers with the reverse sequence, it seems that each can pick up their own set of spyware/adware type apps. I'd suggest using both in combination for best effect.

I prefer firebird for the tabbed browsing anyway. I hate having 6 windows open at once.
i use fireFOX too. but average computer users use internet explorer.
and firebird is shakey in some areas. for example, when a website has background music, it doesnt not recognize it. and therefore does not play it.

There's no reason why average users shouldn't be able to use an alternative browser such as Firefox. It has basically the same features as they would need, the same "stop, back, forward, etc" buttons.

Who cares? Background music is, in a word, evil. No respectable web designer would include background music in a reputable web site. If I go somewhere on the web and hear sounds, I leave (unless I'm going there specifically to see or hear video or audio)

As far as being "shakey," I disagree. In fact, Firefox uses a much better rendering engine than IE will probably ever have. It's also quicker, and the extensions make it a must have. Also, you can't forget popup blocking. What "average" user wouldn't want that? :)

Yeah, it certainly doesn't hurt to run both. I downloaded S&D the other day after seeing a few people mention it and will probably continue to use both.

I'm not sure about Microsoft IE, it hasn't seem to have changed that much over the years. I keep getting pop ups and other stuff all the time.
I've got Netscape running as well, but I just find that although netscape is faster, the organisation of favourites in IE is much easier and it also feels more homey since it's designed along with the rest of the MS package.
