Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.
My advice is to stay away from that forum. Perhaps when you are fully grounded in the doctrines of the Bible you might engage in a discussion with people who are extremely unorthodox in their beliefs. But until then I fear you will get burned. My advice is to learn all you can about Christ and don't worry about debating.
Just looking at it, the problem I see from your defence is not emphasising the imputed righteousness that a believer has, the Mormon eschatology is largely a distraction away from their Soteriology which is wrong from top to bottom, they need to understand that first of all there is no way that they can stand before God, no one is righteous, everyone belongs on the left hand side of God as Ran77 suggests because all are unrighteous, it is only because of God's active efforts that anyone at all can be on the right hand side of him and not their own works.
You need to hammer in that works righteousness is not how the Bible describes salvation, arguing about their eschatology is worthless when they are bringing up ideas from their eschatology.

I find it really exhausting to be honest
Actually it is perfect advice for an old dog like myself who has spent many years studying the truths of God. Paul told both Timothy and Titus to not debate and to not dispute with them.Perfect advice for a novice!

yesMy advice is to stay away from that forum....
It's also good to point out to them that they do not worship the God of the Bible...

1Ti 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
1Ti 6:4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
1Ti 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
1Ti 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
1Ti 6:21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith.
Tit 3:9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
Tit 3:10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;
Tit 3:11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
I actually hadn't been looking at this thread lately thinking that people might have lost interest by now.
Witnessing to LDS is usually futile. The ones who come here are hardened. I've been talking to them for years. The same ones return, sometimes under new usernames.
They believe that we don't know God and don't know that the Father has a body of flesh and bones(which, of course, He doesn't).
So I post about their religion's inconsistencies for the benefit of non-Mormon readers. Then they gang up on me and say that I don't know Mormon doctrine or that I'm misrepresenting and we go round in circles. So the day that I posted here, I was hoping for some help. I was tired of dealing with them. I appreciate all the advice in this thread. I'll go back and look at the posts that I missed.
