I was just curious if anyone here plays classical music? and if so what do you play?

Studied classical percussion as undergrad... played in the orchestra, wind ensemble, contemporary music ensemble, etc.
I play a bit of classical piano (meaning that I just like to hack my way through some Debussy preludes or Bach inventions now and then.)

I do a rendition of Canon in D on my electric guitar. I am hoping to perform it live soon.
It is pretty simple, I get my friend (or a recording of myself) to play the rhythm, and I do the melody, then go nuts in the key of D major . When the rhythm speeds up I go for a pentatonic scale and make it sound more like a rock song. Sometimes I switch it up and go with a reggae beat. It is a lot of fun. I just made a new sound for my guitar that sounds perfect in this song, too bad I cant describe it here .

I'm also learning how to play Jeux Interdits on my classical guitar.

Hi Therese!

I love the violin too but have only played for 2 years. Am now playing with the National youth orchestra every saturdays. My Conductor said I need to change my violin as it is too soft. What violin are you using and what would you recommend?

I play harp, a mixture of folk, worship, and classical. I play a lot of Bach, and am just finishing learning the Toccata and Fugue in D minor. I'm beginning to learn some Beethoven pieces; I tried the Moonlight Sonata a while back and there were too many lever changes for my level of playing.

Currently I'm working on a piano sonata by Chopin (b minor.... 41 pages, and rather difficult), a Liszt etude off and on, some Schubert pieces... yeah, well, basically I have a lot of pieces I'm "working on" but don't have enough time because of school and stuff. Bleah.

/me plays classical piano and trombone. Studied with teachers from the Chicago Symphony but there are no jobs for a trombone player. So I now focus on the piano, and play anything classical but prefer Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Liszt, Debussy, Mozart ... Lately have been working on memorizing the Chopin Ballade in G minor and putting the final touches on Liszt's etude un sospiro.

I play piano for the worship team at church and they have a 7' Steinway in the large sanctuary. At home I play a Yamaha C6 which is better than the Steinway in sound and action.

I also play by ear and compose music and played piano bar in restaurants for years while living and going to school in Europe.
This comes in handy when our worship team leader wants me to transpose on the fly on sunday at church or hands me a piece of sheet music of an unknown song as we are walking up the the front of the sanctuary to get ready to play.

Is it called a concerto? I have played mainly classical violin for seven years now! It's a fun instrument!

Well, I just play with my school orchestra. Two years ago we played Mahler's fourth symphony in Carnegie Hall. Last year we played some of Tchaikovsky's fifth symphony, three movements of Shostakovich's fifth symphony, Barber's Adagio for Strings and Mozart's Overture to the Marriage of Figaro. This year our program includes Beethoven's Egmont Overture, Resphegi's Fountains of Rome, and several lesser known works.

Well, at the end of the year last year we only had a week or two to prepare for our last concert, so we played some movie themes: E.T., Superman, parts of the Crouching Tiger Concerto.
