Just as a reminder: I am not talking about using the dice/cards for gambling. I'm talking about games using the cards and dice without gambling involved. Like Monopoly and Yahtzee (in which dice are involved, but have nothing to do with gambling). And I don't consider playing a casual "game of chance" gambling as long as it doesn't involve the use of real money.

Being against playing board games because they use the same material as games of chance in a casino makes as much sense as being against the internet because some people abuse their free will and get caught up using it for sin. I can't say I would play Monopoly with my son until he is much older because there is a chance he could view our playing Monopoly as my "rubber stamping" greed as a value we are okay with in our home.

A friend of mine asked me if I would play the Lotto a few weeks ago and I said no, I wouldn't because the only reason you play the Lotto or gamble at all is to do one thing: win money. I work to provide for my family, and I work as if I'm working for the Lord. I don't gamble because, to me, that sends a clear message that 1. You're not happy with what God has provided you with and you want more and 2. That you're so in love with money that you are willing to risk the blessings God has given you in order to get more money so that you can be "happy." That is idolatry. Plain and simple. We are to put all of our trust, belongings and everything that is in our temporary possession to God and His glory and I don't think gambling fits that description.

Bottom line; board games are fine as long as you're doing it in a healthy, Godly manner that strengthens the bonds of your family or friendships.

I'm in agreement with you. That's what I mean by "associations with evil". This can be true of just about anything, such as the Internet (like you mentioned), television, food, and guns. Some people may have a problem with comedy and joke-telling because they think the verse about "foolish jesting" refers to having any kind of sense of humor at all. Heck, I think I can recall reading about an ultra-strict group who (if you can imagine this) didn't believe in dolls or stuffed toys as suitable playthings for kids because they associated them with graven images and idol worship! In a way, I can understand that because of these associations some people can have honest convictions against some of these things, finding them to be a stumbling block, and I have a healthy respect for such people. But one thing that one person may find sinful or offensive may not be to another, and having certain convictions doesn't mean they've reached a higher "holiness level" than others. It just means that everyone is different.
