  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any GP will tell you; eat what you like, but not too much; vary your diet to make sure you get a wide range of foods. Avoid too much of anything, but especially fatty, salty or sugary foods.

The Bible writers knew nothing of nutrition.

Must be different in the UK. In the US, most GPs don't actually get a lot of nutritional training unless they opt to do it on their own.

Status of nutrition education in medical schools

And the ones who do opt for extra training, opt for training that can be heavily biased or geared more toward "specialty diets"

For instance, you have guys like Dr's Michael Gregor or Garth Davis or Caldwell Esselstyn (which are known for promoting plant based diets) who vegans will regard as "the" experts on nutrition, or guys like Dr. Peter Attia or Dr. Shawn Baker who the low-carb/keto/carnivore people will regard as "the" experts.

Or you have some doctors who will "ride the fence" and claim "well, vegan diets work great for some people, while animal-based diets were great for others...it's all about body type".

...which is a claim I find rather flimsy. As I'm not aware of any other mammalian species where such a drastic chasm in natural dietary suitability exists.

You look at a group of chimps, they all pretty much eat the same ratio of plants:animals (which is about a 95/5 split), you look at a family of deer, they're all eating almost exclusively plants.

It's not as if you see the Bengal Tiger population in India, and half of them are better suited to eat meat, and the other half are better suited to eat potatoes and apples.

So the idea that within our species, our digestive systems are so different (which they're not, you look at the digestive system of a vegan dieter or a keto dieter, I bet you'll find all the same parts in roughly the same proportions) that one person is better suited to eat like a lion, and another is better suited to eat like a rabbit.

Clearly there's a right answer there with regards approximate ratio of plants:animals we're best suited for...

By that logic, recycling is also "moving towards paganism".

If everything that is respectfull towards and/or good for nature is "moving towards paganism", that qualifier means very little.

If treating animals more ethically and preventing unnecessary waste are linked to "paganism", then that's not making a bad case for paganism lol.

The first vegan I knew said that he did not eat honey 'to be on the safe side' in what he regarded as a contentious area among vegans. I respected his position. I did not see anything Satanic about him. In every respect but diet he just like the rest of us.

(Apart from the cloven hoofs, that is.)

Not eating honey was not initially part of the definition of Veganism as given by Donald Watson in 1944, and there are a minority of Vegans who do eat honey (Beegans, some jokingly call themselves), though many wouldn't accept honey as Vegan nontheless. The Vegan Society of the UK is notorious for infighting over just what is, and is not ,the ethical boundaries of Veganism, with a fight breaking out in the 70's because Plamilk, a soy milk manufacturer in the UK, was ordered by the local government to exterminate rats in its manufacturing plant.

a bit of historical background that explains the origins of veganism from British vegetarianism:

A thoughtful vegan on different vegan perspectives on honey:

If treating animals more ethically and preventing unnecessary waste are linked to "paganism", then that's not making a bad case for paganism lol.

Indeed. Perhaps the "pagans" have better morality.

I think that must be a UK thing. I've only ever heard other USA folks (Usofans -- make it a thing) use meat to mean animal flesh.

It's not uncommon to refer to the "flesh" of fruits and vegetables though.

Eh, I get all our beef from a local rancher anyway.

We too get our beef from a local producer, mainly because it is top quality.

One issue people have with beef is that many beef cattle are injected with growth hormones and fed antibiotics. (not something that troubles me when I am eating a fillet steak (rare). I wonder if you know how the meat on your plate is raised?

For example, the Mormons are quite literally a religion based on false prophets. I learned about them and paying attention to them and their beliefs hellped me to rescue some people from their lies. I was in Armenia and heard an American who was clearly not of Armenian descent. It turned out when I looked he was a Mormon missionary. He and his partner had the ears of about 4 people, 2 or 3 of whome were hooked by their presentation of their religion. But because I knew of their beliefs, I was able to infrom those same people about the things the missionary was NOT telling them, and I exposed the Mormon religion for the anti-Christian cult that it truly is. I couldn't have done that had I not paid attention to them and their religion, i.e. their (false) prophets.

I wasn't aware that eating plants could remove your soul. I guess we've all been soulless forever then.

I think there's definitely a political component to this as well. I didn't hear too many grumblings about people eating plants being "satanic" 10-15 years ago.

...and I don't think it's a coincidence that right around the time more people on the left started promoting plant-based eating as a way to reduce impact on environment, that a lot of conservative types started gaining interest in Keto and "The Carnivore Diet".

Basically I think a major component is no more complex than:
"The libs want us to stop eating so much meat...therefore, I need to find a reason why it's my God-given American duty to eat more steak and bacon"

Sort of the reasoning/mindset that makes them want to drive Ford F-250 pickup trucks with a bumper sticker that says "this truck runs on liberal tears" in response to liberals suggesting we need to reduce our fossil fuel emissions.

The rancher is pretty forthcoming about what goes into the cows, and we even go right to the ranch to pick it up. The cows are butchered and packaged about 20 minutes from the ranch, all local

Maybe...

Alot of actual Vegans and people eating a plant-based diet have a variety of different political orientations, though most aren't going to be paleo-conservatives.

You provided no evidence. And I doubt if any of the videos that you listed are documentaries.

If you want to debate you should try to learn what evidence is. There is good evidence for a plant based diet. The pity is that you didn't present any.
Why do you require any evidence that cruelty and slaughter of gentle, helpless animals is unkind?.
As an omnivore, I had massive cognitive dissonace and denied animal sentience, preferring to
stuff my face with the dead as I had been taught. I was a meat addict, as most humans are. We put
our needs first above all others. As long as the slaughterhouse is hidden, we ignore the holocaust---
Please, watch the documentaries, "Earthlings", "the last pig", and "cowspiracy"
Do you support animal cruelty?. Every meal of animals involves their suffering and death.
To be a strong man, do you need to consume animal cadavers?
Men should be protectors, not predators and victimizers of others--Yeshua was a role model and protector.
The sexiest quality in any human is compassion. But what we SAY must match our actions, because
actions show what you truly care about, otherwise we are hypocrites
Surely you support "right to life". However, male baby calves cannot be forced to make mlk, and male layer hen
chicks cannot lay eggs. What happens to billions of them?.
However a sizeable percentage of farm animals sent to slaughter
are carrying a fetus. 10% to 70% actually are. They find out when they split open the animals stomach.
"For meat, destroy not the work of God".....
Isaiah 11:
6The wolf will live with the lamb,

and the leopard will lie down with the goat;

the calf and young lion and fatling will be together,a

and a little child will lead them.

7The cow will graze with the bear,

their young will lie down together,

and the lion will eat straw like the ox.

8The infant will play by the cobra’s den,

and the toddler will reach into the viper’s nest.

9They will neither harm nor destroy

on all My holy mountain,

for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD

as the sea is full of water.
(No more will hu-manity destroy Gods' animals and marine life, and eat their dead bodies....)

How ironic that humans citicize factory farms, yet convince themselves that "naturally raised" animals are
grateful to be sent to slaughter. It is an even greater betrayal of trust for the smaller farmers to send their
animals to slaughter. Those animals had a relationship with the farmer. It is supporting atrocities.
If only you could work in a slaughterhouse for a week and see the fear in their eyes. They are forced to die.

Somebody doesn't know their Bible.
The Bible has plenty of references to Yeshua being kind and compassionate to all animals.
The Bible clearly reveals God did not want animal sacrifices. The "LORD" who did, was Satan.
Yet, if you read the bible passages, it deceives you into thinking God wants blood sacrifices.
No matter how many animals are cruelly killed as sacrifices, whatever mistakes we have made do not dissapear.
The Bible however does have passages that support child marriage, human sacrifices, and even rape.
We need to be discerning and admit there are multiple contradictions in the Bible, many
books and articles support that. To get a balanced perspective, it is necessary to read these.
The Bible was made up of a lot of what was in the Dead Sea scrolls, The Gospel of the Holy twelve,
and The Nag Hamadhi scripts, among other ancient texts. These all pre-date the "bible".

You might want to get your B12, DHA and afew other nutrients found almost exclusively in animals checked out.

In the brain DHA makes up over 90% of the n-3 PUFAs in the brain. ALA in plants can be converted but the rate of conversion is very poor.

I find myself asking two questions:

1) Where would I even start trying to unpack and correct the voluminous errors in this post?

2) Is it even worth it?

Your linear focus is in the wrong direction. Find compassion for animals. THAT is the goal.
Do you support animal cruelty?
Do you support the slaughter of billions of baby male layer hen chicks every year right after their birth?
How about the many male dairy calves who cannot give milk?
Or, the sizeable percentage of farm animals sent to slaughter who are carrying a fetus?. Hidden information.
What does it take to show that killing animals is against Gods' will? it is an abomination to kill animals,
and then for humans to eat their corpses.
Watch "cowspiracy", "the last pig", and "earthlings".

My B12 was sky high. I take DHA.
By the way, most omnivore humans are deficient in 6-7 nutrients, and, tend to be constipated from not eating enough plants.
E.D. is not caused by avocado, nuts, or seeds. However, it is linked with consuming cholesterol and saturated fats found in all animal products.
Vegans are less likely to get heart disease, diabetes, and many cancers. We also weigh less and are rarely overweight. cheers.
