Has anyone started planning for their child's future, yet. If so, what have you done. I've heard about trust funds. Has anyone looked into group homes? Who will look after your child when you are no longer here?

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I work with a State MH Hospital, we get many people who end up with some petty court charge due to some unrecognized mental problem or behavior outburst by someone w/special needs. But before we do they have been involved (usually more than once) with the police or courts or jails or suicide sections of local hospitals. PLEASE plan, plan and plan some more. Once the siblings get grown and start families of their own or once you are gone, many children are left with nothing more than a SSI check and an attorney who takes a fee for paying bills.
Set up a will, with trusts (to keep bill collectors from ending up with your house) and with pre-paid burial trusts for these children.
