Planetshakers... not for the timid.

Hi guys

hehe... i had forgotten all abut this thread as its more then 2 years old.

I still remember that night and still think that its not a way to help timid people come to God.

There is nothign wrong with jumping around and cheering. No one ever said there was. The problems lies in the fact that a lot of people find they feel peer pressured into doing these things at things like a planetshakers concert. They also become intoxicated by the loud music and vibe on the night. A lot forget about it by the next morning anyway. Especially the new believers.

Again your making general comments without having any proof.

I can't count on my hands and feet the amount of new people.
I know who've been to planetshakers or similar conferences and had there lives absolutely transformed by the experience.

All of them have left the conferences and now live amazing lives walking with God.

Just because it's not your thing doesn't mean God doesnt use it to reach those who need Him.

Don't put God in a box.

I don't see how any of my statements are putting God in a box. Unless you consider Planetshakers to be God.

I have to say I agree with Tigercub here.

I grew up in a pentecostal church - and continually went to the more 'youth' oriented church services, as well as conferences such as Planetshakers/Youth Alive/etc etc.

Unfortunately, it did become highly emotionally manipulative for a lot of people. And, unfortunately, peer pressure played a HUGE part in it. There were a lot of cliques of 'superspiritual teens', where the underlying theme was if you don't raise your hands/scream/cheer/cry during the service - well you just aren't 'in the zone', and you need to be released by that captivity demon in order to be TRULY worshipful to God (which was defined by screaming, crying, cheering, etc)'. I saw a lot of kids treated horribly, simply because they didn't respond the way the majority were told to - and a lot of them did it 'just to fit in', without TRULY feeling that way. If you didn't, the attitude towards you was horrible.

Some people are just not wired into that - and I've seen it time and again with my own eyes. I've heard statements like 'jump around - if you aren't into it, get released by the demon holding you back'.

I've seen kids the next day just refer to it as a rock concert - oh I jumped around cos my mate was.

I'm not denying that there ARE kids who are deeply affected by these types of conferences, and DO make deep commitments afterwards.

However there is an unfortunate underbelly to these types of conferences that is not of God, and is more due to the pressure to conform to 'that' type of worship, lest you be accused of being 'less than' as a Christian.

It's not right, and it bothers me. I saw it for over 20 years, and it still concerns me.

Your putting God in a box because all your statements are saying that planetshakers and the like are not of God.

God works in so many ways and He uses so many different methods to reach people.

It's clear you have an attitude to anything that is not consider "traditional" just read all your Hillsong bashing posts.

All I was saying is that you have to be open minded. Just because you dont like it doesnt mean you need to beat it down.

Have you ever been to a planetshakers conference?

And NO I'm not claiming planetshakers is God.
However I am saying that it wouldnt be as big as it is, if it wasnt of God. And so many peoples lives would have been changed or effected by it.

I agree Tiger cub you may not agree with it or like but i doesnt mean itis bad ther have been thousands saved because of What GOD doe THROUGH planetshkaers GOd does itall and he uses and chooses people to save people and To give them breakthrough and healing and changes there lives Planetshakers is not for evryone but it is for alot of people
Some people prefer a quiet Chrurch Others don't
So before you go bagging And JUDGING them don't Planetshakers Hillsong and others are doing awesoemthings for the kind\gdom of God and he has called you to love not hate and asked us all not to Judge it may not be your cuppa tea but its is mine and thousands of others we shouldnt be calsifed by Denominationsd we love praise and worship the same God

I guess your intitaled to your own opinion.. but judging us on how we praise God & how you think it should be. Thats not what the bible teaches!?
Planetshakers is one of the largest churches in melbourne & probably in australia.
They understand what atracks youth & after just one night at one of their concerts millions of youth have gave their life to God.
You might not like that sort of music & thats fine but does down them, most of their songs are amazing.
our "mosh pit and screaming fans/jumping around and showing off to my friends" Isnt, Its praise. Shouting to the heavens that WE LOVE GOD & we dont cares who knows it.
Did you watch it? Did you talk to anyone there? If you listened to us you'd see we love God. That we really do worship God & praise him in that way.
Worship isnt just singing. Its being who God made you & doing things pleasing to Him. Even seeing one of his children having fun in His name, is worship!
I'm not saying quiet old hyms & stuff are bad, I like them as much as I do planetshakers. I just want you to not judge us without knowing the other side of things.

Would you rather, the kids did this or were on the streets taking drugs & drinking alcahol or worse? b'coz thats where alot of them would be without this stuff, without God.

If it'll make you happy, the bible says 'make noise & praise Him'

& is anyone forsing you to go back? NO! you dont have to, if its not what you like. then just leave it.

I went to planetshakers on Thursday night in Sydney. It was the opening night for the confrence.
It was very strange to me. It wasnt like anything i thought it would be. Basically it was a concert... with a mosh pit and screaming fans. The music was ok but the lyrics were terrible... with stuff like "somebody get your praise on". When i sing songs to God it is worship to Him not about me jumping around and showing off to my friends.
If you went to planetshakers what did you think??

Well i've been to planetshakers a few times and i got nothing but good things to say about it. The way that the speakers conect with the youth there is amazing and the music (even though it is loud) really helps the kids worship. When i hear hymes i think there're nice and all but no one talk like that anymore. When youth hear these lyrics and the loud music it's speaking in a language they know. And people have been prasing god like this before planetshakers, e.g.
2 Chronicles 20:18-19
'Jehoshaphat bowed with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down in worship before the LORD. Then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the LORD, the God of Israel, with very loud voice.'
