Anyone here play or ever have played PA? It's a textbased browserbased strategy game that goes on 24 hrs a day wether you logged in or not. It 'ticks' every hours (the universe gets updated once every hour, so then all fleets move an hour closer, builders are an hour closer to being finished etc) It works in periods of 3/4 months called rounds, and at the end of every round everything gets reset again so you have to sign up again and it starts over again with some changes usually.
When you sign up you get a planet, you can then start constructions and researches, and initiate asteroids to get recourses in faster. The game runs realtime so if it says a building taked 72 hours to complete it will be done in 72 hours. You're put in a group of 10 people called a galaxy when you sign up and your galaxy works together. You can build up a fleet that way, being able to build stronger and stronger ships (and there are 4 different races with each their own strengths and special abilities) When you have nice fleet you can start attacking people in which the goal is to steal asteroids, you have special ships for that, and a lot of normal attack ships as well (the minimum eta to attack is 8 hours and he can call in defense if he can/sees it, and his galaxy can see when he's being attacked so you need to plan it out) From all this you get score etc and there is a rank list ingame (around 4000 people playing now adays)
The funest aspect of the game is the community, which generally communicates through irc on the planetarion irc network. There are tons of alliances with a whole range of leages, from alliances that will take anyone till the ones that you need to be invited into and be online at least a certain number of hours a day. Against the computer it would be the most boring game ever but the community makes it most addicting game ever.
Last round I ended up in galaxy with some of best players in the game, I was on the last month of the round 10+ hours a day, went to bed around 4am to get up between 8 and 10 am to scan wether my targets had defense or not
I concidered myself blessed when I got 6 hrs of sleep in a night, but I was playing hardcore then, and don't intend to do that again, it payed off though, my galaxy after a very narrow race with the then #1 galaxy in the last week overtook them and won
I personnaly ended rank 43 out of 4000
