ence, and not all for the sake of Science herself.
There are some who come into her temple because it
offers them the opportunity to display their particular
talents. To this class of men science is a kind of sport
in the practice of which they exult, just as an athlete

You can get an Associates degree in business, work retail, move into middle management, and before the scientist is done with his post-doc work, you will be making more than many PhD's found in basic science research.

Now as days you can graduate from high school with an associate degree. My son will have finished his freshman year at college by the time he graduates from high school. Mostly because he wanted the best teachers so the better students get the better teachers.

I had a friend that taught at a medical college. They did not pay him much, maybe 80 a year. I know journeyman machinists that make close to 100 a year. They expected him to do research work to supplement his income. A lot of the instructors have full time jobs and just teach one class. They would maybe do it for free.

Of course we are talking about the 20% of the people that actually make money. The other 80% are just scraping to get by.

Human nature always has tried to form for itself a simple and synoptic image of the surrounding world. In doing this it tries to construct a picture which will give some sort of tangible expression to what the human mind sees in nature. That is what the poet does, and the painter, and the speculative philosopher and the natural philosopher, each in his own way. Within this picture he places the center of gravity of his own soul, so that he will find in it that rest and equilibrium which he cannot find within the narrow circle of his restless personal reactions to everyday life.
