  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pity the lecturer trying to teach evolution in a Texas University.

Universities in Texas are busy thinking of the consequences of concealed weapons amongst students. Better not annoy them. ..
Sounds to me like someone's got the case of the jitters.

You do know that the Bill of Rights insures that no pogrom will legally occur on U.S. soil because of your beliefs, don't you?

I've never understood the propensity of a school wanting to hang a sign on their entrance that basically says:
"Welcome to our unarmed and vulnerable school, come inside and enjoy our target rich environment."
Me either.

I'd rather see a sign that says:

"Looking to die? Come on in and wave a handgun around. We're prepared."

I've never understood why people felt such a straw man argument was effective.

Just a thought

And here's one from someone who actually lives here. While there are legitimate concerns about concealed and open carry leading to an increase in gun violence, the thread title is pretty ignorant. Every major state school and every major church associated school (Baylor, SMU and TCU) teaches standard science in science classrooms. They make no secret of that and students who don't like being taught science in science class are welcome to find other universities more to their liking.

Apologies for my ignorance:( i was just responding to the part of the article talking about how the Faculty senate at the University of Houston are warning lecturers to avoid sensitive topics, and dropping certain topics from the curriculum.

This is a silly thread:doh:

Worth noting, every person to respond to this thread (with an avatar) has a cat or dog as an avatar. I wonder how long we can keep that up.:dogface:
Ignore his mistake, folks.

I'm on his ignore list.

Thus his error.

Yet the rest of the developed world manages it without a problem.

Also, I am not going to change my profile picture just to keep up this strange pattern of dog and cat pics. Especially since it doesn't actually exist thanks to AV, and I doubt he will be changing his picture any time soon.
