Hey folks,

Is anyone here a Pink Floyd fan or interested in the band? I'm just starting to get into them - I've borrowed one CD, Pulse, and I think it's great, plus I also have a couple of videos that I haven't yet had the chance to watch. Don't yet really have a favourite song, although I do quite enjoy Comfortably Numb.

Anyone else enjoy their music?

- Andre

I like them. The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon are both really good albums. Comfortably Numb is off of The Wall originally, which is just awesome to listen to straight through. Actually I think that is the best way to listen to that album, straight through.

Dark Side of the Moon + The Wizard of Oz = cool

The Wall was a piece of art. Floyd, before their new stuff (which I'm not that keen on), was phenomenal.

For interest sake, check out The Pied Piper at the Gates of Dawn or The Atom Heart Mother. You can see just how diverse and talented that band really is.

Well, I guess one of several turning points in Pink Floyd history was the departure of Roger Waters. Floyd developed more of a "pop" sound after that, with albums such as A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Division Bell and Pulse. I don't have the release dates right handy.

Floyd started down the pop slide with The Wall (IMO)

It is harder to tell now, but there were definate undertones of the prevailing pop music (read disco) in it.

I didn't find there to be as much of a difference from Wish You Were Here (1975) and The Wall (1979) as I did between the Wall and AMLR (1987). There was also Disco undertones in Animals (1977) as well I thought.

Oh well. Maybe that's just me. lol :help:

I'm sure you noticed that I skipped an album in the discography to each side of The Wall. That was on purpose.

The Wall and Wish You Were Here had a very similar sound, whereas on the other side, The Wall and AMLR did not. AMLR appeared to be a departure from their previous offerings.

Again, that's all IMHO :)

I was just listening to "A Bunch of Furry Creatures..." from an early album (Ummagumma) The early stuff was so...amazing. IMHO, it's still fresh and innovative in a strange and wonderful way. Most people hate it in favor of the pop stuff. I can understand why they rejected the weird stuff-you can't sell many albums or get on MTV by pushing the limits of the masses. Such is the way of music.
