I was just listening to "A Bunch of Furry Creatures..." from an early album (Ummagumma) The early stuff was so...amazing. IMHO, it's still fresh and innovative in a strange and wonderful way. Most people hate it in favor of the pop stuff. I can understand why they rejected the weird stuff-you can't sell many albums or get on MTV by pushing the limits of the masses. Such is the way of music.

You must mean :

Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict :)

That's from memory, it's probably been 20 years since I played Ummagumma back in my college radio days.

There is nothing quite like One of these days I am going to cut you into little pieces; Astrominy Dominy; Lucifer Sam; Arnold Layne; Interstellar Overdrive ...

Has anyone seen the movie Zabrinski Point ?

Interesting Trivia:

Syd Barrett wrote the song Terrapin for the '93 series of the X-Files.

Trivia Question: Where did the name Pink Floyd come from (no Googling !) ?

Bonus: From where ? (see answer to the first question)

Pink floyd was formed in London, and was named after bluesmen Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Anyway, Pink Floyd is one of the greatest bands I've ever known.

I don't want to get off of Pink Floyd, but I have to tell Oblio something he might appreciate. I used to play a lot of free-form jazz, John Cage and other oddness. I had a listener call in saying that they hated my show so much that they had planted a bomb outside the station window and were planning to blow me and my insane music up.
They demanded I play "Stairway To Heaven" I said "No Way!" Soon the place was swarming with the police and some FBI agents. What the listener did not realize was that angry responses are (generally) not seen as a criticism to college radio DJs. The bomb threat experience was a high point for me, especially because I did not actually get blown up. When I got back to my booth I dedicated my show to her.:D

Are you sure? Because I own a Smashing Pumpkins Vinyl from 1989 with a cover of Terrapin on it. I think it's a lot older than that. In fact, I think Syd Barrett stopped producing music a long time before then.

I got it off IMDB.com while I was looking for Zabrinski Point (which is oddly missing)

Wow ! THe best we ever did was have the FBI call our school because we (another DJ mind you in case anyone is watching ;) ) had called the White House and cautioned uncle Ronnie (as he was endearing know to us radicals at the time) to be careful with his worldly might.

Of course there was the time that we made less than gracious comment about a snooty sorrority house that is best left for another time (and forum) ;) .

Assumming you did not peek on the first question (not that I think you did, being a Floyd fan, you knew this by heart :) ), where were Anderson and Council from ?
Well, according to the Penguin Encyclopedia of Popular Music ;), Pink Anderson was born in Laurens, South Carolina, and Floyd Council was from Chaple Hill, North Carolina.

Well, as far as I know, after SB left Pink Floyd, he released a couple of moderately successful albums (from where Terrapin comes), before swearing off music forever. He know lives as a recluse somewhere in England. I'd post a link to prove it, but I need fifteen posts. Go and look around on allmusic.com though, it should have it there, if you're interested :)

Heh, I fail to show up for a few days and look at how many responses I get ...

Anyway, slightly off-topic now, but I'm planning on getting Dark Side Of The Moon and The Wall very soon. Currently, I absolutely love the first CD of Pulse, particularly Coming Back To Life through to Another Brick In The Wall (Part Two), although I feel some of the stuff on the second CD isn't nearly as good. In particular, I don't like The Great Gig In The Sky.

Shame I don't know much Pink Floyd trivia ... although I'm always up for a game of U2 trivia! Apparently, if you listen to REALLY early recordings of U2 (as in unofficial stuff from before their first release, Boy, in 1980), there are a lot of guitar riffs by The Edge that are very reminiscient of Pink Floyd ...

'I still drool over Roger Waters' writing.'

Do you mean his lyricism? Well, I have a question which pretty much gives away my lack of PF knowledge: Did he write all of their lyrics, or was he just the main lyricist? Because some of Pink Floyd's lyrics are just fantastic. I love them.
