Physical exercise makes us feel better, so here's a thread for people in the Singles sub-forum to log and share their physical exercise, and offer encouragement to others. It doesn't matter if it's a short walk, or an Ironman triathlon, just log it all here. All types of exercise are welcome, and discussion of exercise types, programmes, objectives and techniques are also welcome. Exercise logs can be as long or short as you like, and with or without pictures.

Happy exercising!

I'm trying to build up my cycling fitness a bit before I join some group rides. I went out on my fixed-wheel road bike. My ride was about 30 miles, with some steep hills, and over 400 metres of climbing. My thighs were burning a bit by the time I got home.

I miss my bike. I bought an indoor one to prepare me to ride again. But I haven't put it together. I'm still working on the house. Its taken longer than I planned. Right now it looks like we just moved in.

Hopefully, I'll be done in a month and able to ride and do Pilates. I'll check in around that time. :)

I'm back at the gym attending once a week, I do 20 minute workout sessions at home, when I wake up each morning and then go for morning or evening jogs. I've been learning different kinds of water sports lately, which I do enjoy quite a lot.

I like this thread! I try to go to gym 1-2 times a week for weights. Take half-hour walks every couple days. Mix up biking & golfing (we don't use a cart) every weekend.

Yesterday was gym day, 45 minutes

I've heard that Peloton Bikes are quite popular. They're not my cup of tea, but a lot of people reportedly got them at home when the gyms shut for lockdown, and they seem to love them. I think there's some kind of subscription, where you can join online cycling classes.

I've decided to dance. There's enough room for that. I put on music and start moving. I did it last night and will do the same every day. That's better than nothing.
Dancing is great exercise!

This takes me back. I used to keep an online journal on a fitness forum WAY back during my powerlifting era. Unfortunately, the company deleted the forum and with it my journal, which went back to about 2009.

I'm glad I did powerlifting, but I don't miss it. I think chasing the personal records became one of the scariest things imaginable once I started shifting twice my body weight and some. The nerves before a big lift were often more of a burden than the weight itself.

Everyone gets nervous before a big lift. Anyone who says otherwise is lying.

The bike is tied to the membership. It won't work without it. I have an indoor bike but I haven't put it together. Right now there's no room. When I move I'll have a home gym. Bike, treadmill, rower, and weights. And I'll work with a trainer. I may start that this year.

Dancing is great exercise!

It is. I used to subscribe to Daily Burn. I loved the dance classes. I'd do a few back to back.

I agree. I chased steps in the past. I was walking so much it was ruining my feet. I even lost a toe nail. I started in the winter. I'd go out everyday. No matter the weather. We'd have competitions on the weekend. They're popular on Fitbit.

I met someone on there. But my friend was concerned he was addicted to exercise. She knew the signs. He was running a lot. I don't need anyone like that.

With powerlifting the risk of injury is SO high and the work in the gym is just gruelling; and really, all you're actually going for is a trophy and a few bragging rights. Because the strength you gain on the bar is practically useless in everyday situations.

But hey, I enjoyed it at the time. If you can't walk into a gym with a trucker cap on backwards, a bag of chalk, smelling salts and a boom box playing heavy metal on your shoulder when you're 19 when CAN you do it?

I very nearly took up boxing and was intending to fight competitively. I never did though. I decided that if I haven't got a healthy brain then I've basically got nothing. I'm not light on my feet like Mayweather - few are, it's a gift given at birth. I wouldn't be able to just slip, slide and weave in and out of people like he can. I'm going to get take hard shots like the other 99.9%.

Exactly. Given my personality I don't need to exercise competitively. I'd go all out. That isn't necessary. Cycling, Pilates, ballet, and golf are enough. I'll ride at some point.

Even cycling has its extremes. I used to go to a bike forum. I learned about the challenges and long hauls. Where you're riding through multiple states. I don't need to do that. Same with golf. You can join a league. There's a part of me that likes it. But I've reached a point where I've learned to reel myself in. I don't need to go that hard.

Swimming is a good exercise for an all around good workout. I remember several years ago (at my friends pool) he had over one of his fellow boyscouts who was cut and chiseled and he challenged me to a swim race for 5 or 10 dollars.
I guess because he thought he was built he could take me. Little did he know that I could fly thru water like a minnow. I beat him by an arms length. Lol

I wouldn't know, I've always had one of those city slicker battery powered bikes. Even when I lived in the sticks I'd whizz around on it.

Golf I have potential. I could always drive well and putt nicely. I was just hopeless on the fairways with the irons. More often than not I'd go 5-wood, punch it like a snooker shot and aim somewhere near the pin.

Cricket I was just nasty. If I ever opened the bowling it was my policy to send down a throat ball and follow it up with a few choice word for the batsman. I grew up watching the Aussies do it, so... I just sort of applied it to my game. I developed my bouncer purely for intimation, nothing else. The wicket would come after you've softened the guy up.

*Doesn't work with Indian or Pakistani players. This isn't a generalisation, they're literally trained from childhood to hit everything to the boundary regardless of where it pitches. Direct a 90mph bouncer at their teeth, and they'll cut shot, hook shot, and pull shot you all around the park, all day, everyday. The only way you get them out is if they themselves make a silly mistake.

I've never been very interested in organised competitions. I do sometimes set my own little challenges and I sometimes race people up the hill on the way home from work, but mostly I'm just looking to keep fit, and get outside for a change of scenery and some fresh air and sunshine. Often I don't really have a firm plan about where I'm going, or exactly how far I'm going to walk or cycle. If it doesn't rain on me and I don't get a puncture or suffer some other mishap, then it's been a good day as far as I'm concerned. And if I get some pictures to look at when I'm old and creaky and can't do it anymore, then that's a bonus.

Sweet! They’re cute. This isn’t a great area for riding. Too much traffic and bars. I’d never ride in the street. I’d get hit. We have a wonderful path along the lake. But beachgoers will make you murderous and many insist on walking in a chorus line. Which nixes said path and nearly causes spills. Fall is best.

Golf I have potential. I could always drive well and putt nicely. I was just hopeless on the fairways with the irons. More often than not I'd go 5-wood, punch it like a snooker shot and aim somewhere near the pin.

Do you fare better with hybrids?

I’m not well versed in the game but I’ve seen what you said in person. I was trying to find a side street to ride on and stumbled on a group. Just like you said they hit everything. I watched them for quite awhile.
