  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are your fears?
For me -

1:I hate depths. I can deal with heights, but depths are terrifying to me.
2:Spiders... Cant stand them, big or small.
3:Open water. I guess this one is sort of related to my fear of depth.
4:Fear this thread already exists, hopefully it doesn't >.>

I'm quite similar. I'm terrified of heights, as well as depth I suppose. If I'm standing at the edge of a pit it feels like height anyway. It also freaks me out to look up at something really heigh, even when I'm at the bottom of it, not just the top.

Terrified of spiders but also of most types of bugs, but spiders are the worse.

Open water as well. Bridges are like my worse nightmare. This bridge makes my stomach turn. Even though this particular one is not over water. Its still one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen. The water could also have some thing to do with the fact that I cant swim.

I also have an unusual fear of falling down stairs. I have nightmares about it.

...mmm, spiders and heights also! i don't like dark water, where you can't see the bottom...drowning is a particular fear. it would just be awful to watch the last bubbles of the oxgen you need to breathe floating out above you, to break the surface you won't be able to...ergh *shudders* such an over active imagination ^^

what else...? being forgotten, and forgetting everything, like the thought of Alzeimers scares me, i would hate to lose my memories! And losing those closest to me, the people i love...

it's just important your life isn't and doesn't get incapsulated by these fears , not saying anyone does, just...yeah...^^

-Spiders/insects for me is the worst.

-Dark water is second. If I can't see the bottom and can't even see my own legs or body under the surface and I have no idea what's down there then I don't want to be in it.

-Small spaces, but this is moderate.

(I love heights, actually.)

Oh I love snakes.

I dunno, I guess I'm inconsistent. I'm terribly afraid of spiders and insects, and yet snakes are my favorite animals, and I'm not afraid of mice and not afraid of rats (save for the normal caution/fear of animals that can bite or give disease).

I wouldn't characterize myself as having a fear of heights, but I have a fear of falling from them. Part of the reason I don't want to contemplate air travel - the planes themselves don't scare me, it's the chance of plummeting to Earth from 30,000 feet that does. Being up in high buildings isn't exactly something I'd enjoy either - but that's only because of 9/11; I know security is tighter and all now, but the thought just unnerves me.

Other than that...a fear of home invasion/burglary/violent death. The 'violent death' part can also be expanded to include car accidents.

I don't really mind bridges, just as long as the traffic on them isn't bad and the guard railings are obviously secure. Although that one in France would be a little nerve-wracking.

Phobia's:

1. Fish
2. Dogs to a small extent. (If a dog is big enough and I don't know it, I assume that it just wants to kill me.)

I'm also afraid of the water in so far as I have to swim in it. This isn't a phobia simpily because I don't know how to swim and so therefore it would not be unreasonable to be afraid of water that is deep enough that I have to swim in it to survive.

I also have a very very mild fear of dehydration. I say that because I almost always carry at least half of a galleon of water with me any time I am going very far from my house.

Spiders. Any creepy crawlies. --> I suppose this is really a fear of being painfully bitten or fatally poisoned by an eensy little creature that I could not evade.

Being abandoned.

Discovering that I am not really intelligent at all nor worth anything to the people around me.

I would probably be afraid of drowning deep water too but perhaps I haven't come close to actually falling into it so I don't feel such a real sense of fear as for the other ones I've mentioned!

Why is it so many girls are afraid of spiders & bugs.

I don't have a problem with it, but there is seriously a pattern here with girls being afraid of spiders.

Well at least if they somehow invent a way to reproduce without men, women will still need us around to kill spiders for them. Thats what you call job security.

For me it'd depend on the spider. The little neigh-harmless ones that you see scurry away on a wall or something are one thing, black widows are another. Tarantellas even moreso - not that I've ever come across a tarantella, but I have had to kill the other 'large' garden-variety spiders before.

I hate roaches. With a passion. If I see one in the house, I often won't rest and keep a shoe close to me until I know that it's either dead or back outside. Those things drive me up a wall - thankfully we've not really had any this year, possibly due to our cats. Knock on wood.

I used to be afraid of spiders, then I had to live with brown recluses for two years... got over that pretty fast.

My biggest fear is approaching new people. Still trying to get over this.
Also have a fear of tight spaces.
And of being trapped (not necessarily tied to tight spaces...)

There's also alot of things that I hate, but don't really fear. I merely try to avoid them when I can. Clowns and crowds are the first things to come to mind.
