Maynard Keenan said:A sales tax is regressive. The poorer you are, in general, the higher percent of income you spend. the rich would just re-invest and re-invest, getting richer and richer and richer without the government touching anything. We would create an obscenely rich aristocracy, making today's rich look like nothing. Meanwhile, the rich are paying a lower tax percent-wise, and since the poor have no money to be taxed on, we end up with the middle class taxed into poverty. Essentially, we devolve back into fuedalism with an upper class and a poor lower class with no in between.
I guess you missed this part of what I said:
A sales tax could exempt people with low incomes
You really need to study the issue to gain a better understanding of what a national sales tax would be all about. As I said, it's none of the governments business how much anybody makes or what the size of their estate is.
