Pet Therapy

I'm not really sure where to post this, but i figured the pet & animal section would be the best.
I'm writing a paper on Pet Therapy and i can't find any information on the history of it. If anyone knows of any good sites that thell about the history it would be greatly appreciated.

What exactly do you mean? Do you mean pet therapy like as in the kind that you see on Animal Planet where people go to ranches and get rehabilitated with horses and where cats and dogs go to prisons or rehabilitation facilities to teach responsibility and such to the inmates and/or patients? Or are you talking about how pets are known to reduce stress which in turn can help a number of conditions caused by stress?

At first it was suppose to just be about them as therapy animals, like taking them into hospitals, prisons, nursing homes, but as i wrote it, it has turned into both.
I guess i really want information on when they started taking them into hospitals and nursing homes and such.
