In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

you can get contaception over 40. if she doesnt want any more chilren then she should have had a vasectomy etc.

Women don't have a vas deferens, and therefore, can't go in for vasectomies.

Men can, yes, as they have one. But what if the husband isn't willing out of some machismo fear?

If the man's getting older, and the fact that he can still [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] sperm is some sort of psychological assurance or something that he's "still got it," why would he nessecarily want to run out and get rid of that one thing and start shooting blanks?

I see what you mean, and I understand that I can never experience that specific situation. I can understand, but other than that, what is the point? I don't condemn people in their states, but I can't tell them lies about their decisions either. What would you have me do? Just not have an opinion when I can't help but have one?

Personally, I think it's a decision between a woman, her partner and her doctor.

So, other than those three voices at most, I don't think anyone has the right to tell the woman what to do.

JMO.

see if people really dont want to get pregnant... yo know the best way to not get pregnant.... dont have sex... simple... i think everyone shold deal with there actions. think your ready for sex... so you also must be ready for a child...

And many governments clearly see it's far more complex than that.

No chance. If that's the case then I would never be able to have sex with my husband.

Contraception is a wonderful thing. Shame most of the darn things don't agree with my body so have to go for semi-permanent sterilisation instead.

I try to be very responsible and avoid having a child. With the meds I am on right now it could die anyway so an abortion would not be necessary. Accidental babies are not an option so being responsible is. I don't believe people have accidents anyway. Usually its something wasn't done properly.

To Quirk,
If one doesnt have sex one wont get pregant. I am not sure a single government which would deny such reality. What you mean is people wont accept that.

And why should one stop having sex when they are no longer candidates for the Pill?

I'd love to hear the reasoning.

I'd agree, a 17 year old probably shouldn't be having sex, unless there are circumstances that would allow them to be decent parents in the off-chance that they become pregnant, or they've proven themselves responsible in unrelated situations to make putting them on the Pill a solution.

But a 44 year old woman should just accept that she'll get pregnant, because she can't use the Pill any longer? Have you actually read anything I've posted since the original scenario was brought up?

Come on, now. Life is too complicated and human sexuality is far too complex to just say too someone "Don't have sex if you don't want kids!"

There isn’t any off the chance if conception occurs with sex.

Ouirk have a read. women over 40 can use contraception, there is a form out there for every one. if the choose not to then they are just being silly.

lois i know from other thread that you have problem with birth control. but your responcable enough to avoid getting pregnant you know about NFP and im sure you know when is safe and when is not etc. im talking aout young people who just deside to have sex just cause they want sex. and dont take responaclibilty for there actions.

You do realize that the scenario doesn't just depend on the woman's age, but the woman's hormone levels as well? If not all women look the same age at 40, it's kind of silly to say every woman can find a contraceptive option.

So, tubal ligation.
A very invasive procedure.

An IUD.
Not the most pleasant of contraceptives.

The Pill.
Dependant on the woman's hormone levels as much as the progesterone-estrogen combo.

Condoms.
Not fun to use. Reduce sensation.

So, if there is no one-size fits all method in contraception, why do you people rely on a one-size fits all theory in terms of human sexuality?
If simple contraception is so complex, why can no-one seem to see that sexuality in an older marriage between two empty nesters should not just be solved by "If you can't find a contraceptive that works for you, just don't have sex!"

quirk one question have you actually had sex?

if you dont want to get pregnant you really have to put something in place to stop it happening. yes contaception is a pain in the bum. the pill doent work with me. it makes me get depressed but there are over 200 diffrent kinds of pills out there and they all have diffrent hormone levels

and condoms and be pretty darn fun. you get the ribbed and the dotted and pleasuer max. you can have alot of fun with condom and still be safe

I fail to see it's revelance to this discussion, or how that is anyone's business but my own.

if you dont want to get pregnant you really have to put something in place to stop it happening.

I think I've been aware of that fact throughout this discussion.

yes contaception is a pain in the bum. the pill doent work with me. it makes me get depressed but there are over 200 diffrent kinds of pills out there and they all have diffrent hormone levels

And it's an even bigger pain in the bum when contraception can be an impossibility.

and condoms and be pretty darn fun. you get the ribbed and the dotted and pleasuer max. you can have alot of fun with condom and still be safe

More than I needed to know...

That is a standard and overly-simplified solution that can easily be disproven by at least one situation already posted.

There isn’t any off the chance if conception occurs with sex.

Contraceptives does make the probabity of conception if one is having sex less likely and less of a reality.
But standard contraceptives are not for everybody.
Therefore, the solution for those who can't find a contraceptive that works for them cannot be "just don't have sex", due to libido, the health benefits of sex, what it does for a comitted relationship and/or marriage, etc.

come on face reality.

You need to face the fact that abstinence isn't the cure all for women who can't find a contraceptive for them.
Clearly, you are living in the utopia; not I.

If the libido is too great and the have sex and conceive they conceive. If they conceive they must face the consequences.

I am living in reality.

It's only been in the last couple of years that Lifestyles I believe, came out with a line of condoms that would stimulate the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]. Women [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] from direct clitorial stimulation - the amount of women who can actually [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] from penis-vagina intercourse is a fraction of that. That isn't opinion - that's science.

Given that women don't tend to [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] from penis-in-vagina sex, a condom going over the shaft with ruffles won't make that much of a difference in the cases of all women. Some yes, but certainly not all.

Anyways, you only have to read articles in women's magazines, or go to a sex shop or watch a program on human sexuality with callers to see that women don't like condoms any more than men do.

and for girls im sure many would agree there realy isnt much diffence.

Many do disagree.

every one could use a condom. u even get laytex free ones for those who are illergic

You do realize that lambskin condoms are no where near as good as latex ones at preventing STIs? Pregnancy I'm not 100% sure on.

But to suggest that making condoms fun for women is simple as putting some belles and whistles on them or suggesting the husband by latex condoms instead, oversimplifies human sexuality.

Obviously not.

And believing the libido is something that can be or should be controlled by a fear of conceiving is not very fair. You can consent to sex, you don't consent to pregnancy in all cases.

The libido is something that should be controlled Period. We're not simply animals.
I don't care if it's not 'fair' - plenty of things aren't 'fair'. Is it fair to stop a humans heart from beating because someone else chose not to control themselves? Is it fair to destroy a life because someone else didn't get enough selfish pleasure out of latex?

By contrast, is it nessecarily fair to force motherhood upon someone who is unwilling?
