In spite of LaHaye’s declaration that "the four-fold classification of temperaments is still widely used," psychological theorists had generally abandoned the four temperaments typology. In fact, it is difficult to find recent academic material dealing with the four temperaments. Aside from their historical value, the four temperaments have all but disappeared from the research scene as antiquated, out-dated means of analyzing and understanding human nature. As for validation with external criteria, it is interesting that LaHaye would attempt to validate the temperament theory on the basis of handwriting experts.6 These graphologists claim that a person’s handwriting reveals his personality. However, numerous research studies have refuted their claims.7

Okay, this topic has officially tanked. I had good intentions, wanting to help, but it seems I am just promoting New Age pop psychology.

Well, they can't all be winners. Maybe I should have included 3ABN somewhere....
perhaps.... I just wanted to warn you that what you were promoting was bad psychology....and you wouldn't have much of a leg to stand on.... however, I'm done, so you can continue labeling as you see fit.....

Awww Night !!! (*runs after you and gives you a huge tackling hug*)
I'm sorry I posted that comment. I will remove it. I love you.
I first ran into this theory in college, and even subscribed to it for a time, but grew disenchanted with it, is all. It is no worse than other attempts to categorize and define human behavior/personality/patterns for the purposes of helping people understand one another and hopefully work with one another more easily to get along. Seen in that light it can be a GOOD thing.

Did I do well ? Is that a good affirmation that brings healing balm to you?

When we took the tests in college I rated as a "melancholy sanguine" about 60/40. My outward affect is misleading; people might think I'm choleric but internally I share nothing in common with the choleric. It is a trained affect, outward looking like anger when inward is in enormous pain, and it is the pain and the frequency of it which labels me melancholy, and my undying clumsy efforts to be social with others despite being hated, hunted, despised and feared, which earn me the "sanguine" (plus I have a great, if dark and twisted, sense of humor).
