I belong to a well known nation-wide health club. When I was in physical therapy school I applied, interviewed, and was offered a job as a personal trainer (which I didn't end up taking) at this same club, so I know what their criteria is to get hired as a trainer there. Let me say, it is very minimal -- a 30 question test (multiple choice and a couple fill in the blanks), and you must take a 1 weekend class to become a certified personal trainer within 3 months of starting there.
Frequently I see people doing exercises under the direction of their personal trainer, which by the way they've had to fork out A LOT of money for, and I see them doing things which could cause them serious injury. I feel obligated to say something to them (especially as I'm now in the profession that get's to rehab them when they do injure themselves), but I never do because I don't want to seem aloof or bother them during their workout. I also don't want to offend the trainer, but it just sickes me that this is allowed to go on. What, if anything, do you guys think would be the appropriate thing to do in this situation?
(I am aware that there are many very good personal trainers out there, so please no one be offended by this. I'm speaking of a very specific club and about several isolated incidents).
