I have to wonder....why is it that its mostly the right wing who whine and complain about things being too gory, gross, perverted, sexual, violent, etc will ruin the fabric of society, yet on the other hand complain about how socialism and stripping us of our constitutional rights will ruin the fabric of society?
Someone should play some of the Shin Megami Tensei games.
Is that like in Halo where the marines come after you if you kill too many of them? Or is it more organized? And, lest we forget, in those games if you do that, the decent folk react pretty negatively to that - and a gang of bounty hunters led by a character with the same name as the dev team head hunt you down and try and kill you.
Pfft no reason? Every single badguy wants to take over/destroy the planet in RPGs it seems. Kefka did both; Sephiroth was thwarted. Kefka wins. Plus that laugh is awesome

As to the topic, I never understood all the fuss made over kids in games. I can run over little old ladies in GTA or I can sit there and carve someone's face off with a knife in Soldier of Fortune, but if your games pixels are in the shape of children and killable people go insane.

briareos said:Kefka was destroyed... Sephiroth was not. He merged with the lifestream... the essence of life itself. It is canon that Sephiroth has ascended to a higher level of existence as he continues to appear only to seemingly allow Cloud to thwart him.
Sephiroth did not intend to destroy the planet but rather become the God of the universe.
Kefka wanted to destroy everything, hope... and he failed, he was destroyed.
Sephiroth doesn't cry, has no insecurity issues and never displayed the fullness of his power.
Sephiroth has a single attack that can destroy every planet in the universe and he chooses to not allow it to destroy the earth,
and besides... the moment you hear his theme song you know... you know hes God.

This.
Apparently the fact that consumer choice determines what gets produced means that capitalism is the most free and democratic economic system in existence, and apparently that makes it awesome.
Yet, it's that consumer choice that has given us porn, violent and/or blasphemous entertainment and abortion. Yeah, consumer choice and freedom of enterprise did it, not some insidious liberal-atheist conspiracy to destroy Western Civilization.
I seemed to destroy Sephiroth just fine with a couple castings of Knights of the RoundThis is the first I'm ever hearing about him ascending or anything.
It's also kind of a little insulting to Aerith. She was worthy of merging with the lifestream, not some evil dude that tried to wipe out life.
Not neccesarily, but that doesn't matter. Seph intended for the lifestream to prevent it.Granted he didn't want to destroy the planet itself, but meteor was definitely gunna destroy all life if it wasn't stopped.
It's been a while since I've played 6, but what I was talking about before when I said he did both was the half-way point of the game. Kefka starts off as a general in the Empire. He then winds up completely changing the surface of the earth, destroying many many cities (and presumably the many people living in those cities), and takes over what was left. He ruled the entire world. Sure in the end he was defeated, we are talking about FF games after all, but he did succeed at first.
So, what you're saying is that he wasn't a fleshed out multi-faceted character like Kefka was?Fullness of his power? He was beat multiple times by Cloud, if he had more power he would've used to it to not get beaten so often.
Meteor?
Supernova... and yes he was thwarted but he is still alive as is displayed in Advent children, he has reached a higher level of existent, he is in a God like state that has the ability to destroy multiple planets at once. And the majority of his actions during the game were done while he wasn't even awake but was sleeping in the Northern Crater. Kefka has nothing left to be unvield, he was made as he was from an experiment, he used artifacts to acheive his power, unlike Seph and hes....dead.That was soundly defeated by a lifestream powered Holy.(Go Aerith! Even dead she is more l33t than Sephiroth) And he didn't so much as choose to not allow it to destroy Earth, as he was beaten and overpowered.
....touche, I think we can all agree that One Winged Angel is probably one of the best theme songs ever. Kefka's is crap in comparison:

... why does better graphics of something make it worse?
