Freedom of speech.

Freedom of capitalism.

I have to wonder....why is it that its mostly the right wing who whine and complain about things being too gory, gross, perverted, sexual, violent, etc will ruin the fabric of society, yet on the other hand complain about how socialism and stripping us of our constitutional rights will ruin the fabric of society?

Yea, funny that.

And, lest we forget, in those games if you do that, the decent folk react pretty negatively to that - and a gang of bounty hunters led by a character with the same name as the dev team head hunt you down and try and kill you.
Is that like in Halo where the marines come after you if you kill too many of them? Or is it more organized?

Anyone remember Manhunt? The game which revolved around you the player brutally killing people in the most visceral and brutal ways possible to please a psychotic director who you can hear masturbating to your deeds via a microphone?

Manhunt was neither an indie game (Made by the same guys as GTA) nor was it Japanese.

Pfft no reason? Every single badguy wants to take over/destroy the planet in RPGs it seems. Kefka did both; Sephiroth was thwarted. Kefka wins. Plus that laugh is awesome

YouTube - Kefka's Laugh

As to the topic, I never understood all the fuss made over kids in games. I can run over little old ladies in GTA or I can sit there and carve someone's face off with a knife in Soldier of Fortune, but if your games pixels are in the shape of children and killable people go insane.

Kefka was destroyed... Sephiroth was not. He merged with the lifestream... the essence of life itself. It is canon that Sephiroth has ascended to a higher level of existence as he continues to appear only to seemingly allow Cloud to thwart him. Sephiroth did not intend to destroy the planet but rather become the God of the universe. Kefka wanted to destroy everything, hope... and he failed, he was destroyed. Sephiroth doesn't cry, has no insecurity issues and never displayed the fullness of his power. Sephiroth has a single attack that can destroy every planet in the universe and he chooses to not allow it to destroy the earth, his vessel of apocalypse as he sails the galaxy. and besides... the moment you hear his theme song you know... you know hes God.

Someone should play some of the Shin Megami Tensei games.

Excellent series. Nocturne was particularly awesome IMHO. I got to defeat heaven's greatest warrior, Lucifer's old general, and Lucifer himself to become his new general and lead the final battle against heaven.

I seemed to destroy Sephiroth just fine with a couple castings of Knights of the Round ;) This is the first I'm ever hearing about him ascending or anything. It's also kind of a little insulting to Aerith. She was worthy of merging with the lifestream, not some evil dude that tried to wipe out life.

Sephiroth did not intend to destroy the planet but rather become the God of the universe.

Granted he didn't want to destroy the planet itself, but meteor was definitely gunna destroy all life if it wasn't stopped.

Kefka wanted to destroy everything, hope... and he failed, he was destroyed.

It's been a while since I've played 6, but what I was talking about before when I said he did both was the half-way point of the game. Kefka starts off as a general in the Empire. He then winds up completely changing the surface of the earth, destroying many many cities (and presumably the many people living in those cities), and takes over what was left. He ruled the entire world. Sure in the end he was defeated, we are talking about FF games after all, but he did succeed at first.

Sephiroth doesn't cry, has no insecurity issues and never displayed the fullness of his power.

So, what you're saying is that he wasn't a fleshed out multi-faceted character like Kefka was? :p Fullness of his power? He was beat multiple times by Cloud, if he had more power he would've used to it to not get beaten so often.

Sephiroth has a single attack that can destroy every planet in the universe and he chooses to not allow it to destroy the earth,

Meteor? That was soundly defeated by a lifestream powered Holy.(Go Aerith! Even dead she is more l33t than Sephiroth:p) And he didn't so much as choose to not allow it to destroy Earth, as he was beaten and overpowered.

and besides... the moment you hear his theme song you know... you know hes God.

....touche, I think we can all agree that One Winged Angel is probably one of the best theme songs ever. Kefka's is crap in comparison:

This.

Apparently the fact that consumer choice determines what gets produced means that capitalism is the most free and democratic economic system in existence, and apparently that makes it awesome.

Yet, it's that consumer choice that has given us porn, violent and/or blasphemous entertainment and abortion. Yeah, consumer choice and freedom of enterprise did it, not some insidious liberal-atheist conspiracy to destroy Western Civilization.

Watch the movie Advent children, and it was actually stated by the Final Fantasy producers that he had ascended. I'll have to find the quote later.

It's also kind of a little insulting to Aerith. She was worthy of merging with the lifestream, not some evil dude that tried to wipe out life.

So hes a villian.

Granted he didn't want to destroy the planet itself, but meteor was definitely gunna destroy all life if it wasn't stopped.
Not neccesarily, but that doesn't matter. Seph intended for the lifestream to prevent it.

He ruled the entire world. Sure in the end he was defeated, we are talking about FF games after all, but he did succeed at first.

My only point that Seph had no similair desires or need to display such ability and in the end Kefka is indeed dead and Sephiroth is not.

So, what you're saying is that he wasn't a fleshed out multi-faceted character like Kefka was? :p Fullness of his power? He was beat multiple times by Cloud, if he had more power he would've used to it to not get beaten so often.

No I am saying Seph wasn't a whiny little kid like Kefka who had to show all his toys and whine about sand in his boots. It is incredibly apparant that he simply stands there and allows Cloud or Zach to best him multiple times and some of those fights werent even against Seph himself but rather some creation of Seph's mind becuase Seph was sleeping in the crater the whole game. And he is still very much alive, unlike Kefka.

No... Supernova.

That was soundly defeated by a lifestream powered Holy.(Go Aerith! Even dead she is more l33t than Sephiroth:p) And he didn't so much as choose to not allow it to destroy Earth, as he was beaten and overpowered.
Supernova... and yes he was thwarted but he is still alive as is displayed in Advent children, he has reached a higher level of existent, he is in a God like state that has the ability to destroy multiple planets at once. And the majority of his actions during the game were done while he wasn't even awake but was sleeping in the Northern Crater. Kefka has nothing left to be unvield, he was made as he was from an experiment, he used artifacts to acheive his power, unlike Seph and hes....dead.

....touche, I think we can all agree that One Winged Angel is probably one of the best theme songs ever. Kefka's is crap in comparison:

Yes the one winged Angel rocks! Did you witness him dicing up the sister way, a 600 foot gun with his sword in Crisis Core...Sephiroth immediatly reached God status!

Also, in the game dissidia... Sephiroth seems to be the most feared of all the villians.

In some ways, this is a really big question as to what constitutes a graphic item. Such as, why does better graphics of something make it worse?

I imagine the general thought would be "Because it looks more realistic" though, I don't agree with that at all if it's true.

Well, the idea of better computer graphics making a more appreciable depiction can't really be the point in question here, unless people were actually posting scenes / sequences from the game itself. So it has to be the subject matter, right?

I have to think the OP was essentially bewailing the sinful state of our society, which should be pretty in line w/ CF's purpose. If posts show up to incite sinful desires, that would be ... contrary to CF's purposes, right?

Argh, yeah Kefka vs. Sephiroth isn't exactly on topic....:/ I just want to say that I've beaten VII twice, and I do not at all remember that Supernova move(had to watch it on youtube). That does not seem like something that is easily forgotten :o

As to the topic, they're pixels. Just 1's and 0's. I don't see the point at all of getting offended about what is in a video game.

By graphic I am referring to sexually explicit, innuendo and things in poor taste. Please contact me privately to discuss any question you might have about rules in accordance with the rule of not discussing staff actions in threads. Thank you very much.
