People with journals will have a JOURNAL icon in posts with a link to the journal...

Well, People can read your journal regardless of you having the journal Icon or not.

Of course, but I'm just saying. A journal icon jutting out next to your Username is going to get attention from those who converse with. If you chose for it not to be there, then the people might not ever know about it. I'm fine with random people reading it, but people specifically wanting to read YOURS is kind of uncomfortable.
Yes, I'm weird.

I don't know if this is a dumb question or what, however, I'm going to ask it ayway:

How can you tell if someone commented in your journal? I see the hand with pen to a tablet, but how would I know if there is a comment attached without actually cloicking on it?

This is weird. When I click on my own J I get this message:

No Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the webmaster

When I click on someone else's J, I get to their journal.
I also get the above message when I click on "Journal" in the nav bar.

That's the same for me too. One of the mods pointed out my link was broken.

I got that too....but I think I've figured out why: if I have NOT updated my journal, the error will come up like that. When I found that someone updated theirs, I can get to their journal. Not sure about the navbar...I don't remember getting the error message when I clicked up there. Nope, the navbar will take you directly to the MAIN Journal page, NOT to your own journal. (I *wub* Firefox...tabbing RULES!)

Make a new entry in your journal and your problem will be fixed.
That fixed it. Thanks Erwin. Luckily, I had a link to my journal on my CF homepage. Before I remembered that, however, I couldn't get to my journal. If anyone else is having this problem but they don't have a direct link to their journal, how can they get to it in order to post and fix the problem?

Unless members choose not to subscribe to their own journal, they should be able to find their journal in their "favorites". If they have not done so already, they may have to select "show all threads" in "Edit Options".

Another way is to go to the Journal forum's main page. Click on the link "Thread Starter" (that link is in the blue bar located right on top of all the thread list). Clicking "Thread Starter" will list all journals according to the usernames - in alphabetical order.

You will get a PM and some reputation or blessings.

I don't understand how it decides whether to give reputation or blessings, but it doesn't seem consistant.

The member who enters the comments can make that decision. I tried it the other day in a journal:

Instead of clicking on the "comment" icon, I clicked on the rep button and entered my comment. My comment appeared, the other member's reps went up but no blessings were deducted.

That way new members and/or members with only a few or no online blessings can still comment. :)

It's not a dumb question at all :)

Go to your UserCP and scroll down to "Latest Reputation received". That list has several columns. Look at the column "Thread". Each time you see the name of your journal, someone commented on your journal.

I have always used the "comment" button to leave remarks. A few times, I then clicked on the "reputation" thumb to leave reps, and a screen stated that I could not leave reputation twice for the same post.

And when I have received comments in my journal, reps always showed up. The comment in the PM's I received states "Hi! I have entered a comment in your journal and given your 5 blessings and possibly some reputation!" and there was always reputation there. So it is likely that reps and blessings are given when someone comments in your journal.

Yes, that happens when a member clicks on the comment icon.

But I was trying to answer

I don't understand how it decides whether to give reputation or blessings, but it doesn't seem consistant.

If a member receives a comment and reputation points but not the 5 blessings, it means the person who entered the comment used the rep button instead of the comment button.

Which I personally think is a great alternative in case one's own online blessings are very low.
