I visited PCC my junior year of high school for their college days and I rode on the men's elevator.

Anyway, I decided not to go there.

I just couldn't help my self, it was so shiny and the women's was all the way down the hall.

More-so, I want to challenge myself in Christ, to endure some of the things that temptation makes us long for the most. Like wearing jeans, I LOVE jeans, they are SO comfortable. It's kind of like fasting, you do it to make yourself more or less reliant on something. So in other words, the rules are a sort of soul / self challenge for me to become closer in Christ, to focus less on the less important things and more on the ONE important thing, Christ our saviour.

Now I know that believing that the rules at PCC hold to the key to this might be extreme, but it really depends on how far you are willing to go to love God. I know some may say they are perfectly content loving God from their homes, or in a public College environment, but what I am saying is that I am not content with that. I want to be challenged by the Lord, to endure things that most others would not seek to endure.

I am well aware that if I go to attend PCC, there will be things I dislike. I know that for a fact, that's a give-in. I have, since posting this thread, done my fair share of research on the college, and in fact, have not changed my mind on the status of my attendance there. I know that, when and if I go there, there will be things I hate, or have trouble following. But I also know that if I want to be pure to Jesus, then I will follow these ideals that are upheld by the college. The college wants to challenge Christian youth.

I am purely aware of all of these things that you have brought up, that is why I am so in need of "rules". It's not exactly that I need the rules, it's that I want to challenge myself with them. I hope that clears up any confusion or thought that you had. Thanks!

So you want to be pure to Jesus. Well how is following a bunch of legalistic rules going to help you do that? i know this might sound harsh, but PCC rules remind me of the Pharisees in the Bible. they had hundreds of rules to help them stay close to God, but more than half of them didn't make since! one was a person could not walk further than a certain distance (think it was something like 500 yards). PCC may have some good rules, but most of them are extreme. and you don't need those rules to keep you on the straight and narrow. God's word, Church, prayer and the Holy Spirit do that.

another thing you mentioned was that you went to a public school, and saw ungodly things. Well that's life. Every day you walk out your door there will be ungodly things (women dressed wrong, men calling females B's and harlots). Are you going there escape that stuff? What happens when you get out? how are you going to live?

Oh and a side note, i attend a Christian college. Not everybody is saved there, but the Godly image is still strong.

I am not saying I do not realize that there are every day un-Godly things that I will have to deal with in life. I am saying that I would rather be in a very christian enviroment opposed to one with tons of temptations. It's rather hard to explain and at the same time I can say it as easy as that.

I think that if I went to a college like this one I would be more prepared for things after college, and I would be MUCH more mature, developed in Christ, and passionate for living a pure life. I guess that's just me though, and I don't mind standing alone, or in a crowd of very few...

I do not allow my Children to go out on "dates" where they would be alone with a person of the opposite sex.

We all make decisions about our lives daily. I for one don't watch certain types of television shows because they can lead me to impure thoughts about women that are not my wife. Is this pharasaical? Certainly not. Because this young man chooses to place himself into a situation in which he is more comfortable does not mean that his world view is flawed. If he is more comfortable in this situation he will be more likely to succeed academically. It seems to me that he is trying to make the decision that is best for him. It is true that some young people thrive in more permissive environments, it is also true that some fail, and fall into sin. I believe that it is commendable that this young man is trying to guard himself, it indicates to me a young person who is not only concerned about his spiritual life but also honest with himself.

It would be quite right to say that I am looking out for myself. I mean, even though this isn't fully the issue, I know Satans trap. I know that he is out to tempt me, and I know that temptation leads to self indulgence, impurity, and lack of care for my own needs.

I see alot of students my age be brought down by temptation (drugs, alcohol, sex, crime), and I want to be different than them. And I don't just want to be normal, standing on the edge of different and alike. I want to stand in the place that God wants everyone to be, at peace with life, and living a life of purity. I don't suppose that is a bad things, is it, Paladin?

Anyway, to jtbdad, thanks for the good pointers, and you have explained some things to them that I couldn't put into words. I really do hope that God has big plans for me, actually, I know he does, and this is probably a huge step towards that...

Andrew you are welcome, but I am afraid that you are not giving careful thought to the Accreditation issue I ,and I believe others, mentioned earlier. I don't know anything about PCC's success in placing their graduates in graduate school. I would be very careful about attending an unaccredited school, especially if my calling required an advanced degree. I will continue to pray for you. Let me know what you decide.

I am going into business. Insurance, sales, marketing, stock, finance, small to large business opportunities.

These areas, most of the time, do not require an advanced degree. Thanks for being concerned though

What college kid in there right mind would want to go to prison voluntarily??? Prison is what Pensicola is! You wonder why so many college age kids commit suicide!

Do have some statistics that PCC has a higher suicide rate than other US colleges, because that is not really something to toss around casually, dude.

.... but the last time I looked, this was still a free country, and if you don't like the rules the school imposes, you have the right to pay for an education elsewhere.

I've talked with a few PCC students .... and they do feel constrained by many of the rules.

Are you really trying to equate PCC with teenage suicide?

I have not researched their numbers, but I would be willing to bet that because of the types of students they attract their statistics in this area (suicide) would be extremenly low if there have been any at all. My somewhat considerable experience indicates quite the opposite. As a percentage most college age suicides occur in State Universities, which are clearly the least restrictive.

Besides I have not read anywhere that PCC disallows students to leave, In order to be a prison it could not be voluntary. Not only is PCC voluntary, it is selective concerning its enrollment.

Your analogy simply doesn't fit. There have been many well articulated arguments here that PCC may be too strict, that they are segregationists, and that some feel they are legalistic, but I think anyone can see the difference between voluntary enrollment and imprisonment.

Perhaps a better way to think about it is that it a cloistered environment, where you devote your life to study and ministry while closed off from the world.
