Pelosi says Biden shouldn't debate Trump: 'I wouldn't legitimize a conversation with him'

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested Thursday that former Vice President Joe Biden cancel his three scheduled debates with President Trump because the commander-in-chief would "belittle" the forum and engage in "skullduggery."

"I don't think that there should be any debates," Pelosi said out of the blue at a news conference at the Capitol, saying she doesn't want the debates to be "an exercise in skullduggery."

Michael Ahrens, communications director for the Republican National Committee, said Democrats are advising Biden to not debate, not to leave the basement and not to concede. "Odd way to project confidence in your nominee," he tweeted.

Hmmmm, do I detect a note of fear and trepidation in her statement? Maybe Nancy knows things about Joe that she prefers not to have showcased.

I don't see this as a serious possibility given that debates are expected. It sounds like election year trash talk.

We already had thread about this.

I still agree with Pelosi.

If Trump is so terrible of a person and couldn't win a debate with Joe, then why not allow the process to play out on TV in front of America so the people can decide for themselves? Nancy should be ecstatic about a debate--allowing her guy and the guy she has such a hatred for to go head-to-head.

Its strategic. Biden has way more to lose than Trump, who has already set expectations for his own rationality and decency at rock bottom levels.

Keep the Biden gaffe machine on script and teleprompted!

Pelosi says Biden shouldn't debate Trump: 'I wouldn't legitimize a conversation with him'

1) Given that Biden continues to have a commanding lead in the polls after the Republican Convention, its this President and the GOP that are in desperate need of the debates!

2) The self- proclaimed "stable genius" in the White House thinks that by merely showing up he can declare victory!

3) Trump and his supporters, in their infinite wisdom, have lowered the mental and expectations for Biden going into the debates such that he doesn't require a stellar performance to maintain his lead!

4) Unlike Biden, this President thinks that it beneath his dignity to actually spend time preparing for debates - how can one improve on perfection!

5) The Republicans face the prospects of an unprepared President carrying all their futures into a debate where if Biden gives him enough rope, they all know what Trump will do with it!

6) Nancy Pelosi is probably the smartest person in Washington and has "bested" Trump on numerous occasions - her advice should be taken seriously!

7) My advice to Biden would be to make any debates conditional on making his opponent's tax returns public - given that this President and the Republicans see debates as their last chance to improve in the polls, this would force Tromp's hand either way!

Biden is the one who keeps insisting that he's so much better and smarter than Trump (and anyone else he encounters who disagree with him). And yet he continues to demonstrate otherwise while his followers still deny he has a problem. Even Nancy Pelosi is attempting to get him out of debating Trump instead of showing confidence in his ability to do better.

8) AND THEREFORE, Biden should be able to show up at the debate and have everyone's confidence in being the better debater, and also an outstanding president. This, instead of basically saying, "Yeah, but Trump is such a terrible guy that we should just skip having debates".

Yes Biden has a problem. But Trump IS a problem.

How we got here frustrates me to no end. But here we are.

"Yes Biden, BUT Trump" is not addressing anything.

Of course it is.

Pro tip: in election campaign time, we compare the two candidates.

Sure, along with the company they keep. Biden's people are a who's who of the field of democrats who failed big-time at their attempt to get nominated--most of which are extreme leftists (Sanders and Harris, and of course O'Rourke among them).

You could also compare their responses to things that are happening in the country. Trump coondemns the rioters, Biden stays silent about it until forced to speak up. Trump is capitalist, Biden is socialist and surrounds himself with socialists. Trump revived the economy that greatly benefited black Americans after Biden (who had a black president at his side) did hardly anything for 8 years.

Yes. Comparison is the right process. But youre bringing in a lot of off topic stuff that I wont debate in this thread.

I didn't bring those things up to debate them. I mentioned them to show similar comparisons that can be made about the candidates by the people they surround themselves with which indicates their own values.

And that's a serious issue with a candidate, when you can't even trust him to freely speak to the voting public...

I consider that the most dangerous potential president in American history...

I started to wonder earlier, if you climb Mount Everest and place a few stones at the summit, can you claim you’ve created the world’s highest mountain?
