CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Megan's Law is named after seven-year-old Megan Kanka, a New Jersey girl who was raped and killed by a known registered sex offender who had moved across the street from the family without their knowledge. In the wake of the tragedy, the Kankas sought to have local communities warned about sex offenders in the area. All states now have a form of Megan's Law.

Conceptions about pedophiles have been changing rapidly, and pedophilia has recently become a topic of increased awareness and concern. Why do you think the character Josef K. is systematically abused, harassed and tortured? Was he outside the circle of the White Brotherhood? If yes, what makes him an Outsider? You see clearly when you are in the shoes of Josef .K!

I don't think that the film is about pedophiles. Kafka had an extremely dissatisfying life. He felt completely alienated by society. His job as a clerk was extraordinarily boring to him, and he felt trapped (you see his opinion of working at a bank in his portrayal of the office in the movie). His trial and execution of Josef K. stands for how institutional society destroys the humanity of the common man, and kills his soul.

I think it is just getting reported more. We went through an age where the whole culture was like, DON"T SAY ANYTHING. Kids can get over it. It wasn't just religions shoving it under the rug. Schools, little league, boy scouts, EVERY place that dealt with kids shoved it under the rug and covered it up. It was a problem with all of society. THANK GOODNESS the culture has changed. This is largely do to psychotherapy -- tons of survivors coming in as damaged adults for help. I have to help them pick up the pieces and begin to heal.

I'm pretty insulated. Things are fine in my own small little corner of the world, my nice little hobbit hole to live in, my parish and synagogue, my meaningful work, my closeknit family... all the problems are small like a roomate in the front house going back on drugs and having to be evicted. Mostly I worry about my kids and their problems, typical mom.
But I read the news every day. I follow things like the rise in antisemitism, and the new rise in nationalism/populism/fascism around the world. As a counselor, I am alarmed to see the rise in character disorders as opposed to neuroses that come into my office -- it seems I'm always seeing a predator or someone being harmed by a predator.
Humankind has always been "I want what I want when I want it," and it has progressed to mind blowing proportions in our days. Like the Nike commercial, our modern mantra is "Just do it," without care for consequences to ourselves, whether it harms others, or whether it is moral. It is devastating our world, both in our societies, and in our environment.
I'm wondering if it was wise to have two children, as the world will be such a grim place by the time my grandchild is an adult. I hate to say that, because my children and my granddaughter are the joys of my life. But I know that my granddaughter's generation will hate my own generation.
