  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I despise all the buttons console games have,I love my mouse! Plus many, many, many more games available for PC. My first PC was bought because hubby got FED-UP with stupid console games lasting only a few years until they were "obsolete",about the time you were just getting a decent collection of games!

How do games become obsolete? I still have several PSX games that I still play, heck, one of them I bought a year after getting my PS2! As for hardware, PCs (unless you get a high end gaming system) become obsolete as fast, if not faster (in low end cases) than console. Now, I still love my PC, but consoles do have their advantages in the lifespan per unit cost category.

I don't know . . I've got a PS2 and I can still play all my PS1 games on it - but with my PC if I want to play any game released before XP I've got to download patches which may not work or mess around doing weird things, plus I keep having to buy more memory, better graphics cards for my PC to play new games - - all adds up - whereas with a console I don't.
I don't have to install games on a console so there are no memory issues.

But - there are more variety of games on a PC . . . and for some games like Sims2 and oblivion it's possible to download extra things - I can't do that on my console.

. . . can't decide.

If I had to choose only one and reject the other, I'd choose PC gaming because of the sheer variety of games and the control of a keyboard/mouse. If I want to play something with a controller, I just plug in my 10 button (20 with shift) dual analog, usb controller. It even has software that allows it to be configured to work with games that don't support a controller natively.

However, I have nothing at all against consoles and have greatly enjoyed the ones I have had and plan to buy more. I want to get another PS2 for Christmas then maybe a Wii for my birthday in July and possibly a 360 for Christmas '07.

I perfer consoles. The only thing I use my PC for is RTS. I like FPS better on consoles (I might be the only one).

Nope I'm with you.;)

Although I know that "PC's are better for FPS because they are more accurate" I still prefer the feel of an Xbox controller's triggers.

It's just more visceral.:D

I have also played quite a few RPG's on console, and liked them, as well as many action games (Prince of Persia, etc.).

As for RTS, well, PC's definitely have the edge there, but the new Lord of the Rings game, Battle For Middle Earth II for 360, got really good reviews, so the gap is closing.

And as for graphics and hardware, well, the Xbox 360 version of Half-Life 2 will have graphical effects that the PC version didn't.

As of now, consoles have superior graphics. Yes PC's may pull ahead, but the gap isn't huge, and we are still in the first generation of next-gen console games.

Still waiting for Gears of War!

The 64bit version of Halflife 2 has those enhancements. The gap will jump again when PCs dump 32bit and everything goes 64bit. Then, the next generation of consoles will release, then PCs will get more powerful, etc, etc, etc.

I think there will always be a market for both because they each have their strong points. From what I've heard about Battle for Middle Earth 2, it is very well designed as a console RTS with control of squads rather than individual units. It sounds really interesting but I don't think a controller can ever match a kb/mouse for the precision needed for micromanagement and selecting individual units quickly.

I don't get why they don't just include kb/m as an option for controls. Heck, if I could have picked up a kb/mouse along with a 360, I would not have spent $900 on a new PC for gaming. That's why I plan to get a Wii, for the controller.

It's because too many of them are stuck in the mentality of "consoles are not computers"

Then again, do we really want that? The PS3 OS Update "feature" is really just marketing speak for "patches"

After that, people will want to be able to surf the web on their consoles, watch some stuff on Youtube, maybe type a document, then maybe have it connect to a printer, and so on.

In the unlikely event that such a thing does happen, someone will market a console that focuses solely on games because it is cheaper to produce and is better able to run games than consoles that are forced to generalize their hardware.

Im going to have to go with PC on this one, I just cant picture myself playing Oblivion without free mods because thats what made Morrowind fun in the first place, all my fav fps started on PC and its just not the same on consoles, as people have said some of these fps get watered down when they go console, and Im more of a mouse/keyboard person, just better accuracy for me, especially when you play in online tournaments, you have to move fast and aim fast, I dont think I would have been able to pull off a controller for my dayz back in Quake 3 arena, and is anyone familair with SlayerS BoxeR, his starcraft micro is insane, I also dont like the cost of console games, I usually only play on console for fighters, racers and some 3rd person adventure games. If your able to afford a PC gaming rig then you wont have to worry about replacing your pc. I can also listen to my favorite music while ingame which is always nice and lets not forget about mmogs. You can also edit and create maps with editors that come bundled in free with PC games. And I totally disagree with consoles being graphically better then PCs, sure xbox 360 was drooling when it first came out but thats what your going to have to stick with for awhile, were as PCs make it their goal to always create new graphics cards, noway can consoles compete until they release their next generation.
