So my question is that should we all just quite our PC playing? I play ut2004 online and I admit that I waste much time in front off computer playing, but even in bible is said something like this I cant remember the place and i cant be 100% sure its written like this in bible "...I allow you to do everything you want, but what you do isn't always growing you in spiritually meaning.." You know what I meant so what should we do? Also all kind of violence games where people just killing each others and the good example is doom 3 whit the satanic symbols and demons and all kind of bad things, but Im allso fps (first pershon shooter) lover so I play the game, but always when I play the game I'm thinking is this good thing to waste my time In front of games?

I appolizies my bad English, but I hope that this thread would grow up my and our thinking about games and the REAL benefit of playing games.

PC games are not from the devil, they are from the developers and producers;)

Well I play PC/Console games because well they're fun, and they can enhance many of your skills, such as your hand-eye coordination. And if it's an online teamplay game, it's fun to communicate with your team to help defeat your opponent(s). Not only fun, but if you're going into a job like the police or the military, it can really help you.

There are many other benefits, but I'll give some others a chance to say them:)

Most anything, done in excess can be considered gluttony, Dan, but if taken in moderation with our own spiritual lives, is fine. Just look at food. We need it to survive, yet it can be sinful if taken for taste and not sustanance, and makes you sick.

I can think of an example in video games. An appropriate use of video games was at our youth group where we play Crash Bandicoot during some fellowship time, where we get time to bond, where later we share scripture versus and prayer. But video games can be taken out of control like my friend who can play Morrowind for 15 hours at a time, after which he says the real world seems "funny".

So Dan, I think the answer to your question lies really in your attitude towards video games and maturity level. If you can handle your self around them and not overindulge and forget real life, then its a great way of fun and fellowship, God certainly created us to have that! But if taken out of control, then can certainly lead to gluttony.

wow, did I just type all taht?

all things are permissable, but not all are beneficial. And some things can cause some to stumble whereas others are fine with those same things. For example, gambling. There are those who have a serious gambling problem. For them any form of gambling leads to a sinning lifestyle. Where there are some who can in good conscience say play a game of bingo and not be overwhelmed by a sinful lifestyle.

It is up to each individual and his or her walk with God to determine what is healthy and what is not.

I agree a lot to Silenpoet comment here!
I would also add that there is a weird "common understanding" of that everything dull is OK, and everything nice must be some kind of a "sin".

I´m not sure from where this idea comes, but I think it´s from humans who think that reaching God is due to our own striving (deeds). We must please God by not dooing anything... My own view is that "we have ALL sinned" in many ways, and we can only trust/believe in God ... no one can earn a place in heaven by good deeds!

I play a lot of games myself, partly as I´m a christian game developer, so I need to see what is on the "top" of the market right now, to be able to create good games.

Video games CAN become an idol just like anything else can. It happened to me with Everquest. I played 8+ hours a day for over 2 years. I neglected my wife, my friends and certainly my God. I finally gave away my account and threw my disks away. I still play video games, just not like I used to. I take time to enjoy life and let the games come in wherever they fall.

For some people it's sports, for some it's sex, for others it's hobbies, etc, etc, etc...

Bah, that's nothing.

I've had 60 hour gaming marathons. The world feels VERY "funny" after that, although is was probably due to not sleeping and practically not eating for 3 days. My own personal vision quest :D
