I looked into the names of our family and I am the only one that doesn't have a saint name out right...

The greek equivalant name of "reborn", is Zoe.

To explain more -- we are reborn/born-again through baptism. Renee, meaning "re-born" or "born-again" in French, was a name to commemorate that sacrament. It was respelled into English as Renae, in your case.

Ok will look into all these.. besides keeping in mind my own name.. I just looked into what my name meant, but I would not have looked at it that way to be honest.

Trust the Orthodox We're good at finding the origins of names. Some are really common but not known to be Saints names - like Emily We have two Emilys at my parish. I also know a Selena, a Trojadios (Troy) and several much more obscure ones.

My patron saint is St. Katherine (or Catherine) of Alexandria. I had a volume on the women martyrs and was having a hard time choosing between St. Photini (the woman at the well) and St. Katherine. I was actually leaning towards St. Photini because I identify with her in so many ways. I was working the graveyard shift at the time (I worked from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.). One afternoon, I woke up from sleep sensing that St. Katherine was praying for me. Therefore, I think I can say that she chose me.

When I first started reading the lives of the saints, I was thinking of choosing one named Elizabeth, as that was the name that my mother had wanted me to have (but my father vetoed it). The ones that I read about just didn't speak to me that much (and I didn't know about St. Elizabeth the New Martyr [Grand Duchess Elizabeth of Russia]). My priest told me that I have a very powerful saint for my patron saint, and I am very glad that she chose me. You might also look at the Western, Pre-Schism saints.

By the way, some priests allow you to choose your own while others pick them for you. I'm in the OCA, and I think most priests there usually let you choose your own. You might check with your priest as to whether you can choose a male saint. I am not sure about my current bishop's opinion on that, but my former bishop believed strongly that you should choose a saint of the same sex.

Also, if there are other saints that you identify with, you can certainly have icons of them and pray for their intercession as well. I have an icon of St. Photini and other saints that inspire me as well.

That's a good point Katherine; we have several families in church who have chosen family patron saints. Others have walls full of icons, for various reasons. Even though my patron saint is Susanna, I have St Catherine (your patron saint), St. Barbara, and several others. Our family saint is St Xenia of St Petersburg. It's through her intercession I found my husband (or he found me, I'm not sure!). We're very fond of St John Maximovich, and the new martyr Priest Danyl (not sure that he's cannonized yet-he was martyred a few years ago at the monastery doors).

Well I haven't totally decided on a church but at this time it is between the Antiochian and the Romanian Orthodox Churches, but this will be in another thread, I will of course be talking to the priest as to what is done.

As for saints that I am looking at there are a couple that mean something to me and a couple that inspire me including a male saint, but at the same time if the priest chooses the saint for me I will be just as happy - for as you all have stated I can always have their icon and pray to them too, its not an exclusive saint club.
