  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well? Is this guy a Christian leader? Is he a decent representative of American Chrsitianity? How do you view the good Mister Robertson? And how do you view Disney for keeping this man and his program on their "Family Channel"?

I consider Robertson a scam artist, who is out to get your money. Anyone that takes up half his show telling poor people to send the last of their money to him, because God will then shower down riches to them, are quite evil and money hungry.

I don't care if Disney continues to keep his show on. Robertson should be allowed to do the things he's doing.

I'm not too up to date as to what comes from Mr. Robertson's mouth; but if you are referring to this, then I object to the comments made by him. There is nothing Christian about an individual asking for the assassination of another and I am not afraid to acknowledge that.

I look at it this way, the government STEALS the last of my money. They don't promise anything in return. They tell me it's my civic duty. I keep wondering why if GOD only expected a tenth, why government thinks it's due a third?

So you approve of Pat Robertson telling people to send the last of their money to him, instead of buying food, because God will provide it to them? Please.

You could always move, or vote for someone who will lower your taxes. :)

You could also not pay your taxes, if you choose to, but then suffer the consequences. You have a choice.

Pat Roberston's bank account is not God's treasury.

I never really listened to the guy. I've seen his "news" show from time to time but never listened to his editorial commentary.

About his comment re Hugo Chavez: Stupid thing to say. I hope he acknowledges it fast, asks for forgiveness and then I'll think better of him.

On another vein, all those people who have claimed that American Christian fundamentalists are as bad as Islamic Fundamentalists now have a perfect example of a Christian "Fatwa"

I think that there are good Christians elements in what he says. On the other hand he believes in dispensationalism, which from what I gather says that salvation is by faith in Christ only for some groups of people - correct me if I am wrong. At any rate no-one is decent enough to be a decent representative of Christianity. He has a strong moral sense and so would be just right it seems to me for a family channel.

It's risky business to trust a televangelist.

This man is not speaking for Christ. He should not be given any air time if this is what he does with it.

He's not "given" airtime - he pays big bucks for it. So I don't think that ABCFAM is going to cut him off anytime soon. Besides the 700 Club is on several other stations.

By the way, Robertson was the one who founded The Family Channel - it was later sold to fox and ABC with the express command that the 700 club be shown twice daily.

Source? BAM ! Wikipedia:
In 1960, Robertson established the Christian Broadcasting Network. It is now seen in 180 countries and broadcast in 71 languages. Robertson also founded International Family Entertainment, Inc. in 1990, with its main business as the Family Channel, which was sold to the Fox network in 1997 and is now owned by Disney. A condition of the sale was that the station would continue airing Robertson's television program The 700 Club twice a day.

Spectacular. I personally find the guy quite abhorrent, but I think The Daily Show does a good enough job mocking him that any statements I would make would be useless.

That's the way big business works in a capitalist nation. If people start boycotting Disney products maybe Pat would feel some heat. Very doubtful though considering how placidly America took Goofy's recent comments about homosexuals and Muslims.

How can you argue with a man who can give theological insight, personal financial advice, geopolitical analysis, and faith heal a remote TV viewer based on an email - all in the same broadcast?
