Pat Robertson: Decriminalize marijuana

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., March 7 (UPI) -- Televangelist Pat Robertson sparked controversy when he said he favors legalizing marijuana and prayer could have prevented the deadly weather in the Midwest.

Robertson made both comments during recent airings of his "700 Club" talk show, part of the Christian Broadcast Network based in Virginia Beach, Va., the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

Robertson blamed current marijuana laws on "liberals."

Can I be real....

What is so dangerous about weed.... when comparing it to alcohol......or any other drug... marijuana is by far the safest thing to take if a person decides to to do....

ME personally I have smoked weed on and off for years... do I think it should be legal.... yes..

Do I smoke anymore , NO

Why?

Because Weed is my weakness and the devil knows it... when I was stoned I never felt the need to pray or go to church... so I stay away from it...

but I still support it's legalization

to put weed in perspective... has anyone ever seen an episode of Intervention on stoners?

His comments about the victims of the tornadoes are very offensive to the victims; to blame it on the victims for not praying enough is crazy talk.

Still, I'm surprised he's coming out in favour of marijuana. He didn't seem the type...

He has been stating that he is in favor of decriminalization for some time now (since at least 2010, I know). He isn't "for pot" or any such; he is for ending the ridiculous number of prison sentences for marijuana position and such. He is claiming to be for ending a "war on drugs" that is flawed and is primarily hurting people that are innocent overall, but are then labeled criminal and become just that while in prison.

"I just think it's shocking how many of these young people wind up in prison and they get turned into hardcore criminals because they had a possession of a very small amount of a controlled substance," Robertson said on his show March 1. "The whole thing is crazy. We've said, 'Well, we're conservatives, we're tough on crime.' That's baloney."
