Clerical celibacy did not become the 'norm' for those in the Latin rite Catholic Church (aka Roman Catholic Church) until the 13th century. Even today, the Eastern churches (both Eastern Orthodox and eastern rite churches under Papal Jurisdiction) allow married clergy. There are also 'exceptions' made to the rule for already married Anglican, Old Catholic, or Orthodox priests who wish to change jurisdictions.NewSong said:How can you have "sons of popes"....Thought they were celebate and single?
