How can you have "sons of popes"....Thought they were celebate and single?
Clerical celibacy did not become the 'norm' for those in the Latin rite Catholic Church (aka Roman Catholic Church) until the 13th century. Even today, the Eastern churches (both Eastern Orthodox and eastern rite churches under Papal Jurisdiction) allow married clergy. There are also 'exceptions' made to the rule for already married Anglican, Old Catholic, or Orthodox priests who wish to change jurisdictions.

I don't know if its evil. Is it in the bible saying that it is evil? Not only that it seems to me Jesus's Father Kinda left the family business to Him ? Annointed Him for it so to speak. Don't want to cause problems but I do know son's of Godly men who have passion in their hearts for the things of God. Isn't that part of the reason the bible says train up your children, speaking to them in songs and parables (the words of God,etc). Isn't it the hope of the father who does train up the children in the ways and things of God that they would serve God with their lives also?

Man Rick, I just wanted to blast you for this post, but I am so astoundingly happy to see you posting again, those thoughts just ran off me like water off a duck's back! :D :D :D

Welcome back my friend,

Asaph, Are you always so hostile? Or did I just visit here during a bad week for you? You accuse me of trying to "pass something off" as logical. You tell me my logic is "twisted". And you tell Rick that you want to "blast him" for his post, but will restrain yourself because you are so glad to see him. Sounds to me like you got a sneaky blast in just by declaring that. What gives?

I did not attack you personally, I only challenged your poor exegessis.

As far as my post to Rick goes, I'm pretty sure he will get the tongue in cheek meaning of it, and receive my heartfelt joy at seeing him post again.

Dr. Shon,

Welcome to CF.

There are those of us here who've been around awhile and have gotten to know each other....in this case, Father Rick and Asaph, are able to rib and prod each other to a degree that may seem abrasive. I can assure you that neither Father Rick or Asaph are offended at one another, and that they hold the utmost respect and esteem for each other.

I for one find Asaph's post refreshing and honest, and full of wisdom.

And if it appears he got up on the wrong side of the bed one morning, throw it back at him ;) . (For clarity, I'm kidding!)

And again, welcome to CF.....we'd be happy to learn from your thoughts and experiences here.

I can see one or two sons or daughters taking over the church business but lord have mercy every slap dab one of these corporate business ministries are taken over by the children and in my mind this is just not acceptable or something is fishy. Plus the fact they all end up rich and I just do not see this in the New Testament church!!! Fat Eagle...:sigh:

In some cases, the board of directors of a ministry has asked the child of the late leader to take over the leadership. I believe this was how it happened with Joel Osteen. Although we see Billy Graham or Richard Roberts on television, that does not give a full picture of the other leaders in those works - boards of directors, advisors, trustees, etc.

This kind of thing doesn't just happen with television ministries. Look at the fundamentalist Bob Jones University. They had three or four Bob Jones's for presidents, and now a Jones who somehow got away with not being named Bob. :D

Should a large ministerial organization be allowed to shrivel away and go defunct whenever the leader goes to Heaven? No. That would be a waste of all the good work done. That would make as much sense as burning down a church building and starting up a new one every time the pastor dies.

Is taking up the ministerial work of a parent unbiblical? Absolutely not. It's an honor to the parent.
