Personally, if everything I was passionate about was something that could advance my social life, or my financial status, I would think I would be an incredibly boring person. Not to say I'm not anyhow, but hey, who's counting?
A genuine love for people is something really appealing to me for the same reasons as passion, because it is a passion. Anyone willing to dedicate themselves to a carreer like nursing, or teaching has a quality that is so far beyond amazing and simply beautiful that I can't even put it into words. In a way, you could say that performing is basically the same thing... to be a good performer, you need a passion for the people that are coming to see you play. You get that emotional "high" from the reaction the crowd has to you.
Yes, this particular performer has a passion for people and it shows. I think that's what is so awesome about him. Whether you're young or old, fat, skinny, attractive or downright 'ugly' by the 'world's standards' he gives you equal time after his shows during the 'meet and greet' sessions. I believe he also does some work in the medical field when he is not doing summer shows so he seems to truly have found his calling. There are times when I wish I had been pushed to excel and lean towards the medical field myself because I have a friend/coworker who has some serious medical things going on and it breaks my heart that she gets the runaround so much from various doctors she has seen. I sometimes think to myself: I wish I had become a doctor because I would NOT treat people that way. If someone is sick (especially the way my friend is!) you don't just brush them off to your practitioner so you can get another round of golf in later in the day....you listen, run tests, whatever it takes to make them well. My methods probably wouldn't be popular in the medical community of today because I would be more concerned about the people and less about whether or not they have insurance.
Okay...I'll step off my soapbox now. I guess I have a 'passion' for seeing people not suffer, eh?
