While I have some general reservation against bombing (instead of, for example, arresting) suspected terrorists, that's not really the issue here.

The issue is that Pakistan apparently wasn't informed about the attack on a village in its territory. Musharraf being a "great ally in the war on terror", why do you suppose the US couldn't just inform him of the terrosists' location and ask Pakistan to carry out the attack? Or at least ask for permission to bomb? Why the need to ignore the Pakistani territorial sovereignty?

I guess my point is: if something like this happened in a developed country, there'd be massive outrage. If it happened in a hostile country there'd be war. But since it happened in a friendly country that "can't take care of itself" that somehow makes it OK and they're expected to swallow their "sacrifice" for the greater good?

Oh, and according to the report, the airstrike didn't hit Zawahri who was the terrorist targeted, but killed at least 17 villagers (while some Pakistani sources claim more than 30 dead).

Maybe Pakistan is not such a good ally if terrorists are hiding there.

Or maybe the US under Bush as turned into an imperialist state that has forgotten what the word hegemony means and implies.

Musharaff is in a very difficult position. He is against terrorism and the radical islamist, but there are a lot of people in Pakistan who consider love Bin Laden and hate America. He is also not the kind of person we usually like to associate with because he is a military dicator.

Musharraf has to walk a fine line, he can appear to be too much in America's corner or face problems domestically. The military for instance is not very happy with too much cooperation with the US.

This insident will only increase anti-US sentiment in Pakistan and throughout the region. It will further complicate any cooperation with Islamic countries and hinder our efforts to combat terrorism.
