  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey everyone! I want to start learning to paint this summer. I think it would be really fun and give me something to do, plus hopefully I can improve a lot cause right now I've never done much painting before and I"m not very good. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for getting started, what kinds of paints to use or. . . I dunno, just anything that will help me. Thanks!

Hi!

Maybe your library have som books with step-by-step pictures that show you how to use different techniques. Learning how to paint has a lot to do with technique.

What paint you would like to start off with I think you'll have to decide from what kind of paintings you like.

Maybe you can get some help here: http://painting.about.com/

Good luck!
Painting is fun! :D

Hello.
I am a painter.

Hmm. I don’t mind at all what paints I use, in fact, I switch between them day by day. It’s fun to mix the different types of paints as well, water colours and acrylics go very well together. The only thing I would suggest is choosing the appropriate paper or fibrous material in which you will paint upon. I use a thin paper that I have in bulk-rolls, which was donated to me. I also use papers which have deep pores – this prevents runs, though you don't really have that problem with oils.

Just remember one thing, for me, will you? You don’t take art classes to learn anything! You take art classes to bring out the potential that you already have right there inside of you. Everyone is capable; they just have to have passion and confidence. Never let anyone tell you that your art is less than perfect. The only imperfect arts are those which are copied or have had no heart put in to them.

I know you’ll do great!

I totally agree with TheRedFox!

What you learn from books, courses or friends, limit it to techniques!
What you want to do, want to paint, want to mix techinques, something totally new, DO IT! Paint what you want!
