In Ecclesiastes Solomon mourns:
For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.

In the gospels (e.g. Mark 13) Christ seems to urge his disciples to trust through the bad times and keep watch. He wants people to be fully conscious through the worst of times so that they will not be deceived.

Is it better to see the worlds pains or to build the filters which in a sense protect us from them?
Is there no limit to the amount of pain that can be endured so long as it can be rationalised with hope?
If there is a happy ending to the painful stories we read in our suffering then can we somehow endure anything?
Must a hope be real to allow us to bear the pains we suffer or will any old lie suffice?

I'm pretty sure there's a limit to how much pain most people can take...I know that's hard to imagine....but I've seen it.
