I'm sure that Eve would have been surprised at first, but it is not recorded in the Bible. I don't think it is relevant to the situation anyway.

Well, if Genesis 3 says the serpent spoke, and the truth is that the serpent didn't speak, someone must have forgotten something somewhere, no? Anyways, I'm not going to waste too much time trying to convince you that I'm not a secretly godless liberal sympathizer who's part of the problem. Have a good day, and try adding knowledge to your passion (2 Peter 1:5) once in a while. You never know.

You see, that's the problem with translating from one language to another, it doesn't always mean what we think it says.

I find it funny that "shining one" has never been the translation anywhere in Genesis ch. 3 in any version of the Bible, don't you? I'm sure you're more learned than all other Bible translators though.

Do you think the "shining one" now has to slither around on the ground? No. The tale is clearly an etiology of "why the snake has no legs" kind of like "how the tiger got his stripes".

The entire cursing thing (Adam, Eve, earth, the devil) finds its focal point in Genesis 3:15 as the very first recorded prophecy promising mankind a way that his sin may be atoned for that he might regain fellowship with God. Genesis 3:15 is the promise of the coming of Jesus Christ, the devil's defeat, and man's redemption. Ergo, the subject of the passage, vss 14-19, refers not to 'snakes' per se but rather the humiliation (crawling on his belly) the devil would suffer in his defeat; thus we see a myriad of figures of speech employed just as, in the New Testament, Satan is referred to as "that old serpent".
